Looking for a new rod for pitching light jigs, have it narrowed down to
the avid AVC70MHXF 7' MH X-Fast 1 12 - 17 5/16 - 3/4 4.7

or gloomis

I like the length of the loomis for longer more accurate pitches and better line movement, both are $210. Im torn between which length rod, as id like to use it for pitching under docks also.. I have a mossy back 7'5 heavy that I use for most of my jig fishing. What do you say

I use shorter rods than most, my flipping stick is 7' and I use a 6'6" to pitch jigs, some say it is a disadvantage but I'm pretty good pitching jigs to cover with my current rod and that is whay I'd go with the Avid, 7' is enough to pitch with distance and retain accuracy, I've tried using my flipping stick to pitch with but I can't get with 3' of the target I'm pitching too and I like to be within inches and I use a shorter rod for that. I think that is how you have to look at it, the added length you may like and it may help you but is it going to do any good if you can't hit your target with it?

that makes sense but Im fairly good at hitting my target currently with my 7'5 that I have now

The Avid is built on a much better blank than the GL2 IMO.

if they had an avid in 7'5 5/16- 5/8 id jump all over it but they dont, im undecided on 7'

If you really want a lighter, crisper rod in the length of 7'5" I can build you what you want within your budget.

Agreed. The new GL2 lineup is definitely not worth the asking price, IMO. Nice looking rods, they just seem to underperform for the dollars being spent there.

Thats what I thought 10 years ago when I bought one, in fact I have always thought any of the rods I owned built on SCII St Croix blanks were just as good, and a whole let less $$$. I think J.Francho has both Avids and the new GL2..............what do you say John??

If you want a good rod for the money the Avid in my book is the best buy on the planet!! I bought a Loomis IMX and a GLX 15 years ago, I still own them. I bought a St. Croix Legend and an Avid about 15 years ago, I own 7 Avids total today and 4 Legend series and a couple premiers. The IMX was replaced by Loomis about 5 years ago, as it started delaminating, cost me 60 dollars!! I have never had to use the St Croix Warranty, and that is all I have to say about the matter!! Gotta love them St. Croix rods!

I would have a rod built with a quality blank before I paid the price of a GL2 or 3, as stated above, and I'll bet it will be a better rod for less money.
