I am looking to purchase a cranking rod for deep divers like 6xd and dd22. My budget is about $100. I had a 7'10" skeet reese an didn't like it. I also had a 7' Rick clunn that I didnt like. Not sure if I didn't like it because they were glass or what. They just never felt right. The rods will be paired up with a lews reel 5.4:1 gear ratio.

Thanks

The reason you didn't like them is probably because they are glass rods, glass feel completely different from graphite. For 100 dollars look at the Falcon BuCoo model 5-17, it is a 7' MH rod with a moderate fast action, this will be good for the deep divers you want to throw, the 4-17 is a little too moderater for deep diving baits.

I bought a 7'10''M Carrot Sticks Gold from TW last year on Clearance for $120 and its a great cranking rod. I'd suggest a BPS Cranking Stick for a sub$100 rod.

Just purchased a veritas winch series. Felt great at the store with a reel on it. Will test out tomorrow on pickwick. Thanks for all the replies

  • Favorite Lake or River:The Yampa River, Colorado's best smallmouth fishery. Lots of 2 - 4 pound, obese bronze bombers in this river. Connected Lakes is my favorite lake, just a group of small gravel pits, no bigger than 100 acres. No monsters, but lots of 2 - 5 pound largemouths and the odd 6 - 7.

I've heard good things about the Winch series. Is it a glass or composite rod?

It is graphite.

It will launch crank baits a mile. It feels great and handles the medium cranks and square bills real well. I threw some deep divers today and it does a decent job on deep cranks. I am going to play with a little more before I give it a positive or negative review. As of right now it has been the best one that I have tried for an all around cranking rod. Not sure if it will be a good deep crank rod.

Will keep everyone posted.

St Croix Mojo Glass 7'8" for $120. Best deep crank rod you will find for that price.

Check out the Denali Jadewood series. They sell for $100 and I honestly don't think you'll find a nicer rod for the money. I have the Med. crankbait rod but you might want the MH. Very small, lightweight blanks with quality components. The Jadewood series is a very big seller for Denali.

The new Powell Deisel cranking rod would be perfect too!
