So here is the deal. I fish an average of about 28 tournaments a year. Anything from the Thursday night tournament to the BFL. I am a local tournament director and Vice President for a local club. I am wanting to start my sponsor search. I am not looking for any money sponsors right now. I am basically looking to represent a couple sponsors on a tournament jersey and maybe some stickers on my truck. So far this year I have 8 top 5 finishes in different tournaments. This includes 2 wins and a 3rd place finish in the BFL. I guess my question would be, what is the best way to about my sponsor search? I know some of you guys have some experience in this and I would appreciate any advice.

Here is a sample of my resume. I used Abu Garcia as the company that I am interested in. Let me know what I need to work on.

Objective
I would like to form a good relationship with Abu Garcia and promote your products to increase the amount of business and sales for your company and product.

Product Experience

I currently own 11 of the Abu Garcia Veritas rods. I fish with these rods exclusively and I absolutely love them. I love the amount of sensitivity and toughness that you have balanced together in these rods. They are by far the best rod that I have had the pleasure of fishing with. They are built with the fisherman in mind from the reel seat all the way to the tip.

Personal
I am 33 years old. I have 3 great kids and a supportive wife. I live in the heart of South
Carolina within 2 hours of some of the most recognizable lakes in the southeast. I have been
bass fishing since I was about 12 years old. I started tournament fishing when I was 16.
I grew up fishing the Santee Cooper lakes system. I consider this my home waters. I am currently employed with Kaydon Custom Bearings as a CNC Machine Operator.

Tournament Experience
  • I compete in an average of 25 events a year.
  • Tournament director of 14-16 tournaments a year.
  • VP and Tournament Director for Sportsman Bass Anglers (Sumter, SC).
  • I am a member of FLW outdoors, B.A.S.S., and Sportsman Bass Anglers (Sumter, SC).

Accomplishments
  • 2 wins in the BFL South Carolina Division.
  • 4 top 5 finishes in the BFL South Carolina Division.
  • 23 tournament wins at the local level, Including club events and open tournaments.
  • 3 angler of the year titles.
  • 1 top 10 points finish in the BFL.
  • 17th place finish in the BFL Regional at Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia.

What can I do for you?
II will be a walking, talking billboard for Abu Garcia and your products. I will promote
Abu Garcia products through decals on my tow vehicle, the Abu Garcia logo on my tournament jersey, and also through any interviews that I may be in that will be published in magazines or on the internet. I will place the Abu Garcia web address in my signature line on any open chat forums that I use on the internet. I will mention Abu Garcia in my fishing reports that I post on my Facebook page.

This reads like a letter as opposed to a resume.
