Is "basstiality" the same as sleeping with the fishes?

yep people do eat gar. you can only eat the meat around the backbone. ive read all the other meat has some type of toxins or something in it. if you eat the rest of the fish it will kill you. you should be able to find something about it on the web somewhere. i wouldnt eat gar period. just thought id share.

It is their eggs that are toxic to humans. Their meat is edible, know a guy in LA. that would catch them and take them to market. He would fill an old luandry detergent jug with that spray in foam so it would float, hook a big fat salt water hook on it and cut bait. Then a few hours later pick the jug up by the handle, and a .22 to the head he would have an 80 pounder said most where like in the 40's - 50's and take it to market. He was telling me the meat is really good eating but you cannot freeze it, it turns to mush when it thaws so any gar meat you get is usually caught same day.

People eat longnose gar around here. Had a guy try to explain to me how he cleans them as he was hauling off a bunch of gar I'd just shot bowfishing. I was trying to pay attention and listen to him but when he got to "Then you put them on the bandsaw to fillet them" he kind of lost me. Any fish that requires a bandsaw to clean is too much work.
Is it spring yet??

That species is so scarce. That was a major spawner with 5 males chasing her. 5 years from now when he cant find anymore to shoot, he'll wonder why.
