Golf Vs Fishing

They have a bigger national following, more stores, better advertising, more accessible magazines, their pros get paid much more, their pros are more known, they have their own tv channel which is almost everywhere.
Am I missing something? I hear more about how people fish with their kids than how their 18 hole game was, even less about defending golf as a sport or even how boring it is.
So where is the golf support? Why is it so much bigger than fishing? Is there a mentality of anyone can throw a zebco and be on fish compared to hitting a ball on a course?

Longer season so the sponsors get a longer exposure time Good topic and I love to see some more replies. I've been playing golf since I was about 5 had numerous junior accoplisments as well as adult money tourneys. Fishing I've only been in 3 years and fished 3 tournies so I am defianatley more knowledgeable on the golf side vs fishing but those are just some of my perspectives.

As for golfing in general, and I mean no offense to anyone. It seems like more of a rich people's game. I mean there are courses down here that are 300-400 dollars for a round of golf. People are fascinated by this kind of thing, or most anything that is costly. That's one of my takes on it.
Another would be as, Bass Ninja stated, its an international sport played all over the world. Whereas bass fishing us more localized.

Great reply, I know there's guys on here that play both sides of fence.

Yet they do have snow golfing. That's what they make the orange golf balls for. I've always wanted to see a PGA snow golf tournament. I think it would be hysterical to watch them chip that ball outta a snow bank.

Being that bass fishing is more US oriented, you would think since our other sports are more of a US market and global interest wouldn't be a factor, look at football and baseball. Barely anyone outside the states doesn't like American football, even in the UK it hasn't taken off like they expected.

2. In golf, unlike fishing, your wife or girlfriend can kiss your balls before a tournament for good luck. Not a good idea to kiss lures.
3. We don't have fishing clubs to the degree we have golf/country clubs.
4. Anyone can play golf. Only good looking and intelligent guys and gals can fish.
5. You don't have to get up at 3AM to drive two hours to play golf.
6, Real bass fishermen do not drink alcohol when they fish.
7. Real bass fishermen do not have to dress in pastels and white pants to fish.
8. In golf, you don't have to make a $25,000 investment in a boat. Just buy the clubs and balls.
9. Golfing people have money. Bass guys and gals are usually broke.
10. You don't have the Bait Monkey running after you in golf.

In either activity the cost can be both moderate as well as expensive, that's a choice made upon one's own desire or economic background. I've played at muni's and been a club member too, I was always buying woods, new irons, always looking for the magic bullet, just like fishing............there is no magic, you can't buy a fish or buy a swing.
I've shore fished, rented boats and owned a few too. I had a 34' at a marina, with insurance, dockage and maintenance may have been on a par cost wise with a golf club. Made money on my golf membership equity but the boat lost money on a trade in. When I moved to an inland like traded in for a smaller boat, 29', but did my fishing from a rowboat........lol, which I got for free when I bought the house.
Can't say I see either one boring or favor one over the other.

I would respond to #2 but this is a family forum.
Number 9 seems pretty accurate.
As for number 10, you have to contend with the golf monkey instead of the bait monkey.
I have spent way more money on golf clubs, golf balls, and other golf stuff then I have on fishing stuff. However once I found the right clubs and golf balls, I didn't spend near as much.

Watching someone fish and someone golf can be extremely boring. And, I feel that is their only common thread. One is a game, one is a sport. Apple orange thing to me.
Golf is a great game to learn and play. Fishing is a great sport to learn and participate in.

Whenever I'm playing golf and it's a water hole I always wish I packed a rod in my bag.
