So a buddy of mine and I drove 2 hours to manteca CA to visit the closest Bass pro shops, and it was definitely worth it. We walked away with so much fishing swag my debit card practically melted. but I wasn't sure if i had ether struck gold or was walking away with a fat lump of pyrite when it came to this 241 piece soft plastic lure and worm kit. They all looked great (some better than others) but I was concerned with the fact that they all reeked of plastic. Am I just used to buying senkos and roboworms in such smal quantities that I never really noticed before? Or is this an inferior product made from inferior materials that the fish will smell and not want to bite?

Scent is somewhat overrated. I know of a guy that used to fill up at the pump, then intentionally rub his gas-smelling hands on his plastics, just to prove a point. Then he'd catch fish on those plastics. At least that's what others told me who fished with this guy. Personally, I've had bass hit worms that sat in a bag that Deep Woods Off had seeped into. I've had them bite plastics drenched in my sunscreen, and I've had them bite lures that smelled like a brand new shower curtain when they came out of the bag. Besides, that overwhelming plastic smell is nothing some Gulp Craw spray can't fix! Spray into the bag in liberal doses and let marinate for a couple days.

That is actually a nice kit, beavers, tubes, trick worms , stick worms , lizards and even soft jerkbaits. Let the box sit in the house in a cool dry area with the box open for a day or two or seperate the baits in zip lock bags, either way the scent will disapate and if it doesn't get a little megastrike or lunker sauce and put a little on the bait when you use it.

The beavers are the ones with the rugged body. They are used as itself on texas rig or crig maybe, and jig trailers.

Nodda4me showed you the beaver style baits and the jerkbaits are the plastics that are in the slot just left of the bubblegum (pink) colored trick worms, they resemble a worm but have a thicker body and while I not sure if the ones in that kit have them, a lot have a forked tail to resemble a baitfish.

  • Favorite Lake or River:The Yampa River, Colorado's best smallmouth fishery. Lots of 2 - 4 pound, obese bronze bombers in this river. Connected Lakes is my favorite lake, just a group of small gravel pits, no bigger than 100 acres. No monsters, but lots of 2 - 5 pound largemouths and the odd 6 - 7.

A buddy of mine caught a bass on a creature bait liberally dosed with suntan lotion. Don't worry too much about it. Just let them air out.
