I apologize first off if this is a stupid questions.

I wanted to know if the Shimano Saros is braid ready, not needing a mono backing. I recently bought one and was thinking about putting some braid on the second spool when I noticed the spool spool wasn't smooth, but had lines in it. Thanks!

Quickest way to tell if a spinning reel is braid ready is to look at the spool. Most braid ready spools will have a strip or two of rubber running up the spool arbor. That being said, I still use a bit of mono backing on all of my freshwater reels with braid. There's no need to completely spool up a bass reel with braid. My saltwater gear will get braid all the way down 90% of the time.

I use mono backing on my Saros. It can't hurt, and to me isn't a big deal to do.
If that XS1000 is really just sitting in a box in your garage, PM me and I'll give you my address. I'll even pay shipping!

Right.............That said any spinning reel is braid ready, wrap electrical or masking tape around the arbor first, I even do this when I'm spooling mono line. For bass fishing you don't need more than 50 or so yds of line, backing first is good cost cutting measure.
I can teach you all you need to know, but I'll never teach you......ALL I KNOW !
