Just wanted to say big thanks to this site! I usually go fishing only once a year up in Canada with my fish crazy uncle. I'm truly spoiled up there as he takes me to some pretty non pressured areas and its definitely more catching than fishing.
Recently I got the bug to go fishing more often so I decided to learn more. I bought a baitcaster to learn and went out to practice at some local urban lakes. I had never used a 'texas rig' before and I kid you not my first cast with one landed me a fish! (Thanks flukemstr for your awesome vids!)
So that kinda caused the fishing bug to snowball and I went out and bought a boat. 17.5ft duracraft aluminum w/ 90hp johnson motor. Took it out for the first time today and got skunked! First time on local lakes in a LONG time and Still had a blast!
I have a few questions about rods if someone could be so kind to help me with them. I know certain rods work better in certain situations.
I currently have
6'6 Compre w/ Stradic Ci4 Spinning loaded with 8lb pline copoly. I mostly use it for jigging but I'm assuming this would work ok with drop shots as well? I'm not super familiar with drop shotting but I bought some 3/8 to 1/4 oz weights. Would this be ok to use with lighter jigs for 'finesse' presentations?
7ft Med/Fast Carbonlite w/ Pro Qualifier. I spooled 15lb braid on this because I honestly never used braid before and wanted to get a feel for it. Coincidentally this is what I caught that fish on the texas rig with. Is this rod ok to use with slash baits/cranks?
7'3' MH Veritas w/ Lews Tourny pro 15lb pline copoly. I've been trying to learn how to carolina rig with this. Is this rod appropriate for that? I've been using the carolina keepers mentioned in flukemstrs videos. Is this ok or would you recommend a swivel?
