The name alone scares me away from buying that rod.

They come from Singapore.

Exactly my first impulse when I read the post.
If the company name is BS than I can't trust anything else about it.

I think those were the rods they used to film the Banjo minnow infomercial.

Maybe I stuck my foot in my mouth for my comment. I would say that the guy that started the company did it in ernest. I guess you just have to try one.

Siow Chiang & Company Private Limited ("Siow Chiang") is most well known in South East Asia as a leading wholesaler and manufacturer of sports fishing tackle. It has its origins in Singapore as an importer and exporter of toiletries, cosmetic, textile and chinaware since 1926.

In the 1950s, the Singapore economy was then recovering from the ravages of World War II. Recreational fishing was starting to become popular and since its shop was next to the beach, SIOW CHIANG began to sell sports fishing tackle as well.

This strategy was right as Siow Chiang soon realized that there was a good growth potential in recreational fishing. The Company then developed itself into a medium size importer and wholesaler as well as selling their agency products at their own retail outlets.

In 1975, Siow Chiang set up subsidiaries in Malaysia to further strengthen its distribution network. Since then, Siow Chiang's sales team penetrated new markets in the whole of Malaysia with offices and warehouses at Johor Bahru, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Kuching. 2 more subsidiaries were set up in the late 1990's in South Korea and Hong Kong as part of the expansion plan.

Today, Siow Chiang continues to expand worldwide by establishing linkage with associated companies in the ASEAN and Asia-Pacific regions and making connections with interested parties around the world.

Besides representing internationally reputable brands in designated markets, Siow Chiang has also invested heavily and extensively in researching, developing, designing, innovating and creating its own brand of products. Its proudest achievement was to introduce to the world in 1997 a homegrown, Singapore brand, SURECATCH.

There are currently more than 3,000 items sold under this brand worldwide, consisting of a full range of fishing rods, reels, lines, lures and related supportive accessories and outdoor products. Siow Chiang's mission is to establish a one-stop shopping concept for all wholesalers and fishermen worldwide.

Siow Chiang is committed to quality excellence, innovation, creativity and value for money fundamentals and it has honoured its promise to deliver the best to the world's fishing industry.

Siow Chiang's Group Managing Director is Mr Toh Lim Mok, BBM. It's Group General Manager and Product Development Director is Mr Alex Toh. It's Group Assistant General Manager and Manufacturing Director is Mr Loke Swee Leong.
