I haven't fished for about 10 years (since I was 14). I found a nice 50 acre stream fed pond near my house. People have told me it's nice fishing over there, some nice small/large mouth. Anyways, I need a good spinning combo. I only have Sports Authority and Dicks around here, and I wasn't that impressed with the stuff they were selling.

I'd say $150 for a rod/reel. I don't want to spend much more, unless the difference is THAT good. Always willing to spend less, seeing how I'm pretty much a newb again. I'd also need a good quality line. When I was fishing Spider Wire had just come out, but now there are so many types to choose from.

Welcome Aboard.

If you don't mind shopping online BPS has a Shimano Stradic/BPS Extreme for $140.  That reel will suit all your needs and being that it is a Shimano it will last a long time. For the 20 dollars you would be paying for the rod its a great value, I have 2 myself and love them.  Depending on what you fish most often a M or MH would be best.  As far as line I use Silver Thread AN40 on my spinning reels.

If it's spinning 6'6" Med Acton Fast tip St Croix one piece Premier 90.00 and a Pflueger Prersident I like the 35 size for 60 bucks

If it's Baitcasting I WOULD START OFF WITH a BPS EXTREME COMBO FOR 120 BUCKS GREAT DEAL!

This is a great reel and will make a fine combination for you. For line, I recommend #6 Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft.

Should I get the M or MH rod? Both are the same price.

That is really a matter of personal preference. I prefer Medium Power.
Fish under 5 lbs are more fun to catch, but the Medium Power still has plenty of backbone for big bass.

I have no perception of size and weight. I doubt I'll be catching any 17 pounders, so I'll stick wit the medium.

Also for the line... Anything else that you'd recommend besides the Yozuri? I'm getting everything at BPS on a new card, and they don't carry the hybrid ultra soft.

Original Yo-Zuri #6 or maybe Gamma Copolymer (not fluorocarbon). Although I have NOT fished the Gamma, it is HIGHLY recommended by KU-Bassmaster. He fished the Yo-Zuri for a year or more, but has switched. I trust his judgement.
