Supposedly there is a warm water discharge somewhere near the airport on the Potomac. I have only been in Maryland for two years and have only had a boat for a few months, so I am very interested in learning the Potomac. I have no idea where it is safe to put my boat in and where it isn't. I read about different areas, but all the lingo is typically in local language (like "I fished Dam 1" or "I fished around so and so island."). Not being from around here and not knowing the river, I have no idea where some of these areas are and how to get there. I would need Road Numbers and directions, not locations on the river. That is why I would be interested in going with (or taking) someone who knows more about the river than I do.
Thanks for the information you gave me though.
Yeah, that makes a lot of sense tagging along with someone. Since I had my outboard stolen almost 2 years ago, my boat is primarily set up for electric only lakes but there are a couple of spots in Washington county where the current isn't too bad and I can put my boat in there. I do have to monitor the current flows though. MskSlyr and I put my boat on one time in the spring and I hadn't checked the levels for a while. We killed my primary battery, used up my backup and ended up having to use my accessory battery to make it back the last 100 yards to get back to the ramp.
This might help you some.

It's a boat ramp atlas for MD that's on the DNR site. Just click on the county and it will give you a listing of the ramps for that county.
Glad I could help you out!
