   I was reading the lastest Bassmaster mag and there is a article about fishing a senko style bait under a popper style bobber. This rig is used over grass beds. Anyone ever try this?

I tried fishing it over a some structure after I read the article, but no fish yet. It does sound like something that could be deadly.

  Will,did you use the bobber stlye they had or different? What kind of depth/leader,I guess that depends on the depth of the weedbed? It looks to be a clear to stained water tactic.

I used a popper and fished it over a boat ramp that nobody uses, but fish are always hanging around the ramp. I was fishing with a 3-4 foot leader.

It makes sense when you think about it-same theory behind the float-n-fly smallmouth anglers use.  Read the article but haven't tried it yet.

read the article also havent tried it but its got to be the same principle as a jig and bobber and by the way i caught 3 bass and 4 crappie this afternoon on the old jig and bobber technique i going to give it a whirl ad see what happens

What is the jig and bobber technique?  I joined BASS a few weeks ago but haven't received any magazines or anything yet.

I never though about this before but it would be a great way to have my kids (twin seven year olds) fish a Senko.

What happens is in order to keep a wacky rigged senko out of the weeds, rocks, snags, and whatever else you want to keep your bait out of. Rig up a wacky rigged senko with a slip bobber to stop the bait so it sits above the weeds or whatever you want to fish the top of. If you don't have slip bobbers you can use regular bobbers or take the hooks of a popper and add an extra line coming out the back of the lure.

How do you work it then?  Do you just leave it still under the bobber, or what kind of action to you apply?

For the most part you let the worm just sit and shake doing its own action. If you don't get a strike after letting the worm sit in one spot either reel it in a little bit or throw it back out to another location. The technique is best when their is at least some wave action to keep the worm moving down below the bobber.

I know this is an old topic, but I was reading over it.  I have had great success doing this with Tiki Sticks and they are basically senkos.  I twitch the line making the worm dance in place.  Works great.

I tried this in a tournament last year when we could see fish suspended in a flooded forest but they wouldn't bite (btw the tournament was won in that area by flipping to the trunks of cedar trees, but that's a different story).  It seems to me in order for this technique to be effective you have to have some wave action going on in order to get the best action from the Senko.  Also, it seems that you have to be an avid line watcher, cause they are less likely to pull the bobber under (like a blue gill) especially if they are suspended.  Just my $.02.

this sounds intresting what kind of bobbers you use? i have no bobbers (my son lost them all)
