I always see that the brakes should be set evenly. I have always set two on. However I recently decided to try it with only one break set. I like it and definitely got better casting distance and did not notice anything negative. Is there any risk to do damage to anything by only turning on one of the brake pads.

On some reels it's not very noticeable but what I've noticed is as the reels get more expensive the higher the tolerances and the more you notice that it's uneven. Usually it just sounds different on the cast. But I've never seen anything that spins on a central axis preform at it's best when it's weight is uneven.

I've been doing it on a patriarch XT with the dual brakes. My default setting has been 2 centrifugal and 0 on the mag, but I was trying to get some extra distance while using a weightless senko. I haven't noticed anything bad but would you suggest I keep it set at 2 or if its working its ok ? I don't want to damage anything. Thanks for the help.

I bought a used Johnny Morris JMX 10 HB which has both, what do you do then?
I'm thinking, set the cent brake to say 2 on and 4 off and then set the mag brake like to you showed...back off to 0 weigh the lure and then turn up. Is that right? or is there a different order needed to set up the "Dual Braking System" the Johnnny Morris reels have?

The Cent break is mainly for the beginning of the cast when the spool is spinning the fastest. The Mag break works throughout the cast but has the most effect on the back end of the cast. I would say set the cent the way I show it and then play with the mag break. If you find that you are backlashing at the end of the cast then tighten up the mag break.

Like Flukemaster said, if you're backlashing on the first half of the cast, the spool tension is too loose. Second half of the cast, the magnetics brakes are too loose.
