A recent thread got me thinking bout this again but does anyone have one of these scopes or any experience with one. I'd like it for my marlin .17hmr but BSA is kinda a low end scope and you get what you payfor with optics generally but it's just a .17 so no recoil to deal with but what about clarity in the scope.

I have a BSA 4-12x40 on an old .222 Rem., it does hold zero and is clear however the image is distorted around the edges of the sight picture. I guess you can say you get what you pay for. For me on this particular gun its ok because I only use it for target shooting and once in awhile woodchuck hunting at fairly close distances.

This will be used for squirrels out to 200+ and fox and coyotes up close and I'm still not sure on taking a yote with it though iv seen it done and done it with a .22lr im just still note sure though it would have to be a head shot.

It has a bushnell 3x9x32 on it now but I like the compensator of the BSA. I'm not sure if any other company makes a scope for .17hmr.

I had one of the older ones on my .17 and had not so good luck with it. Got a Mueller APV 4.5-14X40 and like it so far. Got it for around 130ish last year.

Unless you manage to get him in the ear its a risky deal in my opinion, more so than a 22lr by far. I'm sure youve seen the explosive qualities of a 17 HMR, which can lead to a real shallow exploded patch. On the scope tho, I was tempted to get one myself, but decided to go with a Simmons Atex and have been real happy

The 17 is very explosive and shallow especially the hornady vmax however I'm thinking of switching to cci TNT for two reasons. One is it's available at walmart and hornady isn't it's a hour drive to et a box. Two in reviews it gets much better penetration.

You said it yourself in your original post, you get what you pay for. I stay away from crappy optics, basically anything made in china. Most stuff made in the Philipines is somewhat decent for just a little more then what you pay for chinese garbage. Bushnell trophy XLT stuff is real decent for the money if you wanna go low end and still have quality .

Its a pretty nice one, my dad has on on his deer rifle and its taken the abuse.

Ya know, its pretty funny, but my gun shoots CCI far better than the vmax's, which isnt a problem for me, or my wallet.

I just picked a box up just gotta re zero my gun hopefully it likes the cci it's the same grain and velocity. I usually shoot hornady out of all my guns and they all like it. Idk if it's the guns or just mental with my self but all my guns shoot sub moa right off the bat outa the box with hornady factory ammo so I never try any thing else. How do you like the CCI for hunting does it dispatch them quick everything I shot with the vmax were done never had a crawl off or run away.

Depends on the varmint, but ive yet to have anything small move after the bang. it seems to have more knock down power than the vmax, but it could just have been the situations. I mainly use mine as a paper puncher, I'm partial to .22 mag. Ive got a .22 mag revolver and rifle I carry into the woods, which lets me carry one type of round.

Dropped a red fox this morning using the TNT round 180yds shoulder shot he wadded right up didn't twitch. I still gotta hide em I'll do some csi work to see what it did inside.
