1) What type of wire you use to tie the skirt.
2) How do you actually tie it.
a) What tools? Length?
3) Any good videos????
Any help would be great. Thanks!!!!

I use big fly thread, not wire.

Do you run into trouble with the weedguard getting in the way? Do you finish the knot with super glue or something to keep it from coming apart?

My wire is off an old table saw motor.

Small needle nose to twist
Small cut off pliers for a clean cut.
It helps if you band the skirt first, then after wire is tied, remove the band and reuse on a new skirt.

Take #10 stranded, skin it, peel strands apart and use this. It works well. I give it 4 wraps around, being neat, having it lay side by side. Straighten out your skirt, then twist. Be sure to twist enough to hold skirt firm, but not to much to where it cuts into it. Trial and error. Then cut off excess and bend remaining tab over.

x2. I have always thread tied my jigs, I now wire tie just like backwater4 except I only use 3 wraps of wire. I find it faster and easier to do it this way than thread tying. Like backwater4 said just be careful so you don't cut into the skirt strands.

x3. I get my wire from Hobby Lobby. I use brown wire for green pumpkin an brownish jigs, white wire for white jigs, and black wire for black jigs. I get 30 ft of each color for $1.49. Its just 20 guage craft wire. Works great and is very cheap. I have tied over 75 jigs and have a lot of wire left.

Wow cadman, you stopped using thread?

I still use thread. I wanted to try the wire out and I have mixed feelings. With the thread I don't cut skirt strands or break the thread. With the wire I don't cut skirt strands, but I have been breaking wire, when I twist it. So I have a ways to go and be more light handed, or get heavier wire. We'll see, as I like the wire because it is faster.

Allen,
I asked my Harbour Freight about it and they don't stock them for some reason. I did want to try them out. Back to the long nose.

I have a pair that is very similar to those and I don't see myself saving time with them. Seems to me that by the time I get them on there and then off I could have had it done with regualr pliers, BUT I haven't played with them much to get the hang of it either.
