Looking For Some New Jigs

31 posts in this topic

some great jigs mentioned in this thread. I am partial to wire tied rubber skirts. I use the Talon Custom Lures shiboii ooki jig and trim down the skirt to my liking. I believe at rest rubber flares much better than silicone and this is only what I prefer when fishing jigs. The hooks on these jigs are super stout and I have yet to bend one out even when flipping and literally pulling bass out with 10 pounds of weeds on it.

I keep eyeballing the big o jig and I may bite on it later this year, but I have ordered over 50 of the TCL jigs that I will use up first. Only consideration is this jig has an arkie style head.

The way I see it is I have very few competitors on the market, I don't see any of the mass produced jigs on the market as competition, my true competitors are guys like Seibert Outdoors, and all the other small builders that are doing GOOD custom stuff and putting their heart and soul into their work. Business doesn't have to be cut throat, most of what I do I owe to my competitors, I wouldn't be hand tieing, going through all the different paint steps, using the highest quality components and so on if it wasn't for companies like Seibert and all the other hand builders out there. We all push each other to take the next step into building a quality product. I am sure g-man wouldn't have bought into the Owner hooks if I hadn't been doing them with success , I am also sure I wouldn't have a mop jig if his wasn't so successfull. One thing I always try to remember is in the end we are all fisherman, so no matter what we all share a love of this sport, and everyone benefits from the friendly competition of smaller companies.

Wow!

If I had to choose a jig to throw in any cover it would be Arkie style... But definitely buy some football head jigs incase you need to throw in some rocks.

looking to buy some northstar jigs...whats the best jig type for throwing in any cover? the most versatile jig head

I'd really have to say the Alien is one of the most versatile heads there is. The line tie is very protected and doesn't hang very easily. It's very, very good in rock, and does better than average in grass. Keep in mind, too, the weight is often the most important thing about the jig. You really have to match the weight to the conditions, regardless of all other things.

I don't really see the need to expand on the original topic, but I will say this, I will guarantee you that I have landed and weighed more fish after switching to Northstar jigs than I have with any other previously. They just work, the hook, the head, the skirts, the paint. They do just what they're supposed to do, and I like that. I could build my own, but why?
