When it comes to oils and cleaners, i dont see many opinions on what is the best and what is junk. I use Remington, but is that any better or worse than say, Smith & Wesson brand? My brother in law uses the cheap wal mart stuff and i always feel like hes ruining his guns. I guess my question is, what is the best and what is junk?

That's a pretty open question, what are you lubing?

An AR-15 was designed to use only CLP.

I use CLP, Miltec, and rem-oil. Just know u can't mix CLP and Miltec it makes it gum up bad. I like the Miltec the best as it doesn't attract dirt and dust as CLP does and u can wipe carbon right off a BCG on an AR any part of the whole BCG it just wipes clean even after days and thousands of blanks being shot outa it. I use rem-oil on all my guns at home without having an issue.

Get yourself a spray can of EEZOX gun care, which is a CLP. It's one of the highest rated gun care products on the market. I've been using it for about 3 years now and am very satisfied with the results.

Rem Oil has a tendency to gel up in the cold. I learned that the hard way a few years ago when I was hunting in the panhandle of Oklahoma. It was frigid cold, and my brand new Browning Maxus wasn't cycling properly. I called Browning, and the first thing the guy asked was what kind of lube I was using. I told him I was using Rem Oil, and he said to throw it away, and get some CLP. Anyway, I switched to Break Free CLP and never looked back.
If you think you deserve something, you probably don't deserve anything.

That right there is what I have found also. IMO that stuff is horrible.

I use Ballistol to clean, lube and protect. I'll use a light grease like superlube for slide rails on a 1911

I soak metal parts in a 4 to 1 mix of Odorless Mineral Spirits and CLP for the heaviest gunk, like AR 15 bolts.

Mobile 1 Synthetic for lubrication. Roughly 300,000 rounds fired in training and competition since 1992.

Just HATE cleaning guns and I do so very infrequently. But when I do I use this and it works well.

I have used Hoppe’s #9 to clean and Hoppe’s gun oil to lube for the last 29 years. I hunt and target shoot and have never had any issue what so ever. Hoppe’s says it lube will not harden or gum. I personally have never had it thicken in cold weather while shooting or hunting. Then again I like to apply lube sparingly and clean and re-lube very often. After every day hunting I will wipe down and re-lube my guns.

For a cleaner i use the orginal USGI rifle bore cleaner.

For the lube i use moly.

Moly;

1. eliminates all wear
2. reduces friction
3. doesn't attract dirt
4. stays were we put it.
5. fights corrosion
6. the gun will cycle faster and smoother.
7. moly on the trigger sear will lessen the trigger pull by up to 50% right away and more as it works into the pores of the metal.
8. Even during storage once its lubed with moly its ready to rock n roll at anytime.

Moly my guns never leave home without it.

www.ts-moly.com I use the ts 70 moly paste & anti-seeze

when i was a very active ATA member shooting trap almost 4 days out of the week, i would clean almost everything on my shotgun with choke and carb cleaner, and use bar and chain lube on my reciever. this is on a PERAZZI MX-10RS. a very nice gun and i probably put around 80,000 rounds through that gun and it always worked flawlessly.
but on a side note, on my winchester sx3, choke and carb cleaner isnt what i use because if it gets on the camo on the foregrip, the camo will literally fall off the synthetic grip.
Hope this helps!
