Just got a new Spinning rod setup. The reel is 8-20 lb line, and the rod is 5'6 medium heavy. Any suggestions with what type of line, what brand, and what weight? I will probably use it for bass, maybe some pike, but i needed to be a travel rod so it will be used for all types of baits, from spinners to cranks, even if its not its strong suit.

There's lots of room for variation. I assume the reel is physically large with that line range. Maybe you could use 12# mono, perhaps 15-20# braid. You don't need real heavy line unless you'll be fishing heavy cover and braid that strength can handle cover quite well.

Based on your other thread you are using a president size 35 reel, 8# mono, 10# tops or 15- 20# braid.
