I do this very thing as soon as I get mine as well. Makes it nice when organizing! One other thing I do that helps is I organize mine in numerical diving order (shallow to deep) from top left corner to bottom right corner. When im on the boat and need to change depth, I can open my box and know exactly where to find the depth I need.

I scratch mine in on the bill, for some reason permanent markers just aren't permanent anymore

I use a small engraver and mark everything on the bill I can't find a marker that lasts.
keep it simple.....share your knowledge...... be honest

Wish I thought of this. I have a box of cranks that I can only guess their running depth based on the size of the bill
