The 2017 Bassmaster Classic is still a month away, but professional anglers have already learned where the 2018 event will take place.

The Bass Anglers Sportsman Society announced Wednesday South Carolina's Lake Hartwell will host its premier event March 16-18, 2018. The lake is in Anderson, S.C., but all associated events, including the weigh-in and outdoors show, will be centered in Greenville.

The 2008 and 2015 Bassmaster Classics were also held on 56,00-acre Lake Hartwell. The more-recent event was won by South Carolina angler Casey Ashley. According to BASS, 103,000 bass-fishing fans turned out to various events during the three competition days.

Elite Series anglers have already begun the season-long competition to qualify for the 2018 Bassmaster Classic. The season's first tournament was contested last weekend on Tennessee's Lake Cherokee, and the $100,000 first-place check was taken by Alabama's Jacob Wheeler.

The highest-placing Louisiana angler was Pierre Part's Cliff Crochet, who finished 44th. Crochet led the tournament after day one.

Crochet will be joined by fellow Louisiana anglers Greg Hackney and Ryan Lavigne in Houston to contend with 49 other anglers for the 2017 Bassmaster Classic title. That event will be held on 21,000-acre Lake Conroe March 24-26.
