USCG Auxiliary Warns Against Out-Of-Date Charts

WASHINGTON - December 1, 2004 - The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary has issued a warning to the boating public, saying it has received several reports that retail chart sellers have been selling out-of-date nautical charts to the boating public.
The USCG Auxiliary said in a statement today that NOAA, the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, is charged with producing nautical charts. Boaters should stop by its Web site - http://chartmaker.ncd.noaa.gov/mcd/dole.htm - and check on the latest edition of that chart before purchasing any nautical chart.
Each week, the United States Coast Guard's Navigation Center (http://www.navcen.uscg.gov/) issues nine regional Local Notices to Mariners. These notices detail specific changes in the waters within the region.
