  2. What's the best reel money can buy?... I've got to believe it hasn't be made yet. This is why your desire is going to be very, very expensive! I prefer finding (and being happy with) equipment that is "adequate" for my needs. oe
  3. Actually you're learning how to properly fish plastics! Ya gotta give em what they want, how they want it!
  4. I your's right handed or a lefty? oe
  5. Given the variety of waters we find across our country (and beyond), it's prudent to add to this discussion long casts can be fruitful "when cover and conditions allow". This discussion by Tom, et al, is a good reminder! It'll be a good read finding how others overcome the obvious difficulty of landing a large fish hooked a great distance away. oe
  6. Yes I got the boat Tuesday!! Haven't had the chance to get it out and fish yet, when I got there to pick the boat up and transfer the title the guy informed me that he didn't have a registration for the trailer. Went and transferred the title for the boat and hauled it home the two hours without plates on the trailer. Have to get the boat off the trailer this weekend and then go weigh the trailer so I can register it. Then hoping to get the boat out soon after that, I don't play games with the law, cause as they say if I didn't have bad luck I wouldn't have luck at all.
  7. I bank fish in the brutal summer heat of SC so I have some experience here. As others mentioned, you need to stay hydrated and cover up. Believe it or not, wearing a long sleeve shirt with UV protection and moisture wicking capabilities keeps you cooler than just a regular short sleeve t-shirt. I was skeptical at first, but it works. As for the fishing, any bit of cover no matter how shallow has the potential to hold bass. So make sure you fish tight to shore where there's any aquatic vegetation. Make multiple passes at those spots before giving up. I've had a lot of success fishing a buzzbait or Sprinker Frog along lines of vegetation along the shoreline. Bass are also going to be found offshore from the banks as well. They may be close to the bottom in little dips or hollows or they might be suspended below the thermocline. It is my experience that while these bass are not actively seeking food at this time you can tick them off and get them to strike. It is also my experience that during these periods of rest bass are less likely to chase a fast moving bait. One way is to drop a bait right in front of their nose but the odds of doing that from the bank and no electronics is pretty slim. That's why a lot of folks suggest fishing slow along the bottom. It works, but it can be boring. One of my favorite ways to tick off these bass and get them to strike is using a Pop-R. It makes a big noise and you can fish it at different speeds to get their attention and get them to strike. If you can stand the heat, don't pass up fishing between 11 am and 2 pm. I've caught a lot of big fish during that time frame even on blistering hot days. I seem to remember that Toyota has a program in Texas where they collect data on catching bass and the biggest bass were usually caught during that time frame.
  8. The Sweet Beaver is my hands down favorite for a swing head jig. I also like using the smaller versions like the Smallie Beaver and Gambler Little Otter on a small football head and dragged over shallow rock flats for smallmouth.
  9. One thing I do with a long range fish is quickly troll toward the strike to close the distance before setting the hook. I use mono because it floats and I can see the “ twitch “ when they bite the soft plastics I use the most .But with mono , there’s stretch , so it is much harder to get a good long distance hookset and keep them hooked. I like some stretch, because for my style of fishing The fish don’t come off much once they are hooked. ( Not including long distance strikes) So as soon as I detect a strike on a long distance fish , I close the distance a little and pop him.
  10. To be fair, online shopping is taking its toll on all brick and mortar businesses, not just Cabela's. One of the reasons why stores carry less and less merchandise is it doesn't make sense to tie up all that cash in store inventory when people are ordering online. To me that's a double edged sword. Often times I want to inspect the merchandise before making my purchase. For example, I would have a hard time buying something like a sofa online without checking it out in the store first. I want to make sure of comfort and quality first. Clothes and shoes are another purchase I prefer to do in the store rather than online. But stuff like lures, reels, electronics, tools, and other stuff I have no hesitation to purchase online.
  11. The real danger with heat injuries is that the victim usually doesn’t sense the signs/symptoms. If/when they do, it’s usually too late, and the victim is already incapable of helping himself. Take the precautions! Fish with a partner if you can!
  12. A warranty spells out the legal obligation of a manufacturer and or retailer in connection with the sale of a product. If a company sells a rod (or anything else) that is the extent of their obligation no matter whether one thinks its "a joke", "ridiculous", "not worth it" or anything else. Anything a company does or does not do in addition to what is spelled out in the warranty is at it's discretion and it's up to them to decide what makes sense in terms of customer service, and keeping (or think they are keeping) customers. Companies, no matter what they do or make are in the business of making money. The mission statements are PR. People are absolutely entitled to their money (hard earned, or otherwise) which is why they should research their purchases, as well as all other contracts they may enter into, and once doing so expect everything that transaction spells out, not some " i want a new one at no cost to me no matter what because Social Media is powerful"

  15. You don't believe people are entitled to their hard worked money? If your company sells a junk product they are at fault not the customer. Maybe you should reread your vision and mission statement. What happen to costumer first?
  16. You did the right thing. The way I see it is, everything over the legal limit are fish that some kid can't catch now.
  17. Definitely out on this , then again I’m not a fan of the products the company puts out. They should make them in a grey color which is the color the dock spiders are up here
  18. Thank you for the link, Back in the day we were told you have to go out but you don't have to come back.
  19. He's apt to be holding a big cat as he is a bass or walleye.
  20. Hi to all! Just joined the forum, so I thought I'd just say hi and post a picture!
  21. That’s how I beat my locally pressured impoundment. Throw old baits or brand new. By old I’m talking stuff no one throws anymore. It works! Try it!
  22. Hi Tom, haven’t head out yet, I leave July 26, work is making me stay for a couple of meetings 👎. We were just at Greenville this past weekend looking for apartments and dropping off the cats. Now we’re back in San Jose waiting for the movers. Most of my preparation is complete. I bought a 2200 watt portable generator that I used at clear lake. Charges the batteries great. I paid money to install a new axle with brakes as the original axle didn’t have mounting flanges. I beefed up my truck suspension. And I bought better tires for the trailer, Goodyear endurances. I tried going up an inch in rim diameter but the tires rubbed. Had to sell those and get another set. Huge headache. Just today I replaced my cranking battery, the old one died on me last week. Glad I caught it. Now I just need to get the trailer tires and spare mounted and I’ll be good to go! ill miss the California fisheries but NC has amazing fishing as well. My final itinerary has me skipping fisheries on the west because of the extreme heat. My first lake is Lake Dardanelle in Arkansas. Then it’s Guntersville, Chickamauga, Lookout Shoals, and Shearon Harris. If I have time I’ll stop by other lakes. Stupid work made me condense my trip Ohh d**n I may need to check this out. I’m not even out of California and I already miss smallmouth. They’re not that common in NC right? They’re definitely not in the RDU area Thanks! How’s the fishing in the area?
  23. Wait..... fish can’t talk? i hope my insurance is gonna cover this. Probably have a slew of mental issues 😂
  24. Thank you so much, I am the fisherman who over analyzes to a point of fault sometimes haha. I was going to attempt to fish either the Clinton river or the north branch Clinton river. Hear about people catching them like crazy, it’s a feeder river to lake st. Clair over here in Michigan, and I have personally caught small mouths in feeder rivers to Lake Huron. I know there will be some. Locating them is gonna be the tougher part. That river has had trout in it as well, I’m not sure if they co exist, but if they do not co exist with trout, than I can at least rule that area out! I appreciate that post it answered just about everything I needed to know. I’m assuming water clarity also follows traditional selection. Natural in ultra clear bright in mud and white is good always in my experience not sure why. Maybe a mix of natural and bright? Who knows lol.
