  1. Past hour
  2. We'd be sicker if all this great tackle wasn't profitable for the makers, and it went away.
  3. If you go with the pistol grip rods, I hope you have wrists of steel - or carbon fiber - or whatever is high tech & strong. Back in the day when I had a couple of pistol grip rods, my wrists would be worn out by the end of the day - often enough that I kept Alieve in my tackle box. I'd take the previous suggestion of getting a 6'6" rod and adjusting it with a hack saw, mostly because of the straight handle.
  4. I try to be kind always in my day to day life. I don't need any recognition, nor do I need to advertise. Kids make it easy to be kind. It's the jerks out there that are the challenge. Be kind to them, and they might surprise you.
  5. I've heard it's one of the worst industries when it comes to markups. It makes sense when you really look at this stuff objectively though. How much ACTUAL difference is there between a $100 reel or rod vs. a $700 rod or reel? From a materials and manufacturing perspective, there's very little cost difference. They're smart though. They'll make the $700 rod or reel "feel" much better just by using a few upgraded parts and processes that barely cost them anything but do make a noticeable difference in performance.
  6. And then cover them with an oil based bass scent and it will not happen again.
  7. At least on the Potomac, I look for flats adjacent to deeper water because they warm quickly under the sun and whether they are spawning, getting ready, or just roaming around in the warmer water it seems to be where will be in general.

  9. I was given about 30-40 worth of hooks, plastics, and two frogs by the guy who taught me how to throw a baitcaster. He showed me a lot and from that I’ve helped others. Given a way baits, sold reels below asking price. I love the reactions. Helping others is worth it. Not afraid to share tips or tricks with others.
  10. I understand it's just a charging system I was referring to the post about batteries moving towards lithium. Yes I know a little off topic butttttttt oh well
  11. Very good choices on both rod & reel. That Tatula CT would pair really nicely with the 7'4" H/F (TTU741HFB) Tatula Bass rod for dedicated frog/flipping. If you're fishing cover that's not too heavy then you can also go with 7'1" H/F (TTU711HFB) for more versatility. The 7'1" feels super nice with the Tatula CT and balances perfectly. http://www.daiwa.com/us/contents/rods/tatulabass/index.html For the 7'1" M Curado, Sedona, Sahara, or NASCI in 2500/3000 size would all be nice. There are incremental benefits between these three reels but not a huge difference. My personal preference is Sahara simply because the colors would match better with the Curado rod. While Fuego LT is a good reel, mix-matching Shimano/Daiwa just feels weird to me lol.
  12. When it comes to fishing i typically buy multiples of tackle to do well with like everyone else. I will give a few lures to young kids I see on the bank. Last year I had a day I was on a hot hot hot jig bite one summer day. When I pulled up to the ramp to pickup my buddy I seen a dad watching his young son probably 10-12 years old casting for bass. After talking with them for a minute and hearing he hadn't caught anything I gave him a brand new in the package the exact finesse jig I was using. The look in that kids eyes you would have thought ole bill dance handed him a piece of tackle. I try to do something like this for kids any chance I get.
  13. We'd all be sick if we knew just how much markup there is in all aspects of the fishing industry. Rods/Reels/Line/Lures/Boats....etc.
  14. In the normally clear rivers I fish, smallies tend to be sight feeders. when the rivers rise and get muddy, they don't seem to feed. The places they will move to in high water are out of the current. Often holding very tight to the shorelines in very small eddies. Along undercut banks, tree roots, logs, anywhere the current is blocked. If there is good shoreline access, it's a good time to bank fish. No casting needed, just cautiously, slowly, without making too much noise, walk the shorline and drop a small jig & twister right along the bank in those little no current spots. Fast, high flowing rivers are dangerous to wade or float anyway.
  15. And if I had to review it based just on that and not the app and other features I would have some serious concerns. I don't see how an outboard motor is going to "Charge" the 4 batteries in my boat on it's own. If I still have to plug in my on-board charger at the end of the day then this is really not a "charger" it is a battery maintenance system that has the ability to redirect the charging capability of my big motor however insufficient that may be. Am I missing something? I believe the Lithium comment was responding to my statement that it was new technology.
  16. When I used to use bottled dips and dyes I placed each one into their own ziplock baggie. Those baggies went into a Tupperware container with a screw lock lid. Double protection right there. Another tip is I always poured out half or more of the dip or dye into another jar. No sense having a full bottle of dye with you as I can't see anyone needing that much on one trip. That way if there is an accident it's not as much spilled.
  17. I've had them for around 5 years. I have a few other nice sticks, SC LTB, Pinnacle DHC7, but most of my others are from the Avid line. I'm more likely to drop coin on a reel. I have more rods than I will ever need.
  18. Be careful. 🤣 I sold a Dobyns to a co-worker and now he has gone off the deep end in what he buys. He now has Loomis, St. Croix and Kistler rods. It becomes a sickness really. You think the bait monkey is bad, wait until the bait gorilla is on your shoulder. Hard to ignore the weight of the gorilla on your shoulder.
  19. Thanks Blue! Another promising piece of insight. The wife and I plan to go out there tomorrow evening for a few hours. The lake definitely looks the part. Probably plan to just spend a little time idling around on the graphs to find some of the structure that holds the bigger fish. I hear you guys reference Boy Scout cove and Wilson’s cove. Which one is which? I assume they are both on the east side of the lake across from the marina?
  20. I won a 60% off coupon for a Dobyns rod in a tournament. I picked up a 744c and 745c in the Champion Extreme line. Man, they are nice to fish. I wouldn't have spent retail for them. I have tasted the forbidden fruit, lol.
  21. @Bluebasser86 I need a few of those monsters.
  22. I in fact look at my most recent set up and think do I really need that? It is a Megabass Addermine and a Shimano Exsence. Don’t get me wrong the thing is wicked but.......again it does not help me catch anymore fish than a much cheaper set up. Elitist or not good enough who cares. If I ran into the issue the original poster did it would be difficult not to make a comment in some sort of fashion. Do the fish know what I am using or even care?
  23. The fist time I saw Ike was watching a Bassmaster Elite rerun of his Classic win. All the yelling and the screaming had me thinking, dang dude! Act like ya caught a fish before! But over the years, you figure out, that's just him. I am sure many of us saw last seasons two part Zona which I still have recorded (and go back to just because it is so funny), Zona said the same thing about his antics, and added he just loves the sport so much. I agree that the he had a giant on and it comes back 1.7 oz thing is kind of annoying, and honestly I don't really care for his podcast. It's just not my type of humor. But I give him props for doing it. I do however REALLY enjoy his instructional videos. I think he does a very good job of breaking things down and explaining everything so that anyone at every level can take something away from them. This season we have seen him break down after the first two tournaments, but he is having a very good season. His name seems to be always in the thick of things. I really disagree that it is suggested that he is a poor ambassador for kids. He is out there, he is known for really pushing to get more kids fishing, he puts on clinics and tournaments for for them, etc etc. We need ALOT MORE OF THAT, for this sport. Less Xboxes and more tackle boxes.... Go get em Ike!
  24. I Use 17# Vanish for leader when fishing for Salmon. Never a problem. There are some that jump on the negative bandwagon just to be followers. Use what you have good experience with and don't use what doesn't work for you; just that easy.
  25. I definitely relate, and most of my rigs are a couple hundred to $500 less. Isn't that funny, spend too little, not good enough. Spend too much, elitist. None of tat could be further from the truth for the person using the gear. It's qwhy people defend their choices so fiercely.
