  1. Past hour
  2. Congrats, NorCal! That's a whopper!
  3. That's an awesome beast, Norcal! Congratulations. Don't forget to change your PB designation on your profile!
  4. The dye boxes available were nice, but they didn't work for my situation so I made my own. It is a fairly small container, so it doesn't take up much room. The front two slots are for Scent appliers (Fish Sticks), I like to keep them upright so that if they get too warm, they don't melt all over the place. The middle spot is for a paint container while the back two spots are for dye. I made the holes for the dye a little too large, so I wrapped some duct tape arounds them so they fit snug. I made a small channel on one side for dye markers. I keep a couple of paper towels inside to clean baits after dyeing and am able to do all of the dyeing in the container to avoid spills on the carpet.
  5. I offered background on ALX to point out they got thier start as a custom rod builder that makes high quality rods, excellent personal customer service and warranty, not as well known as Shimano or Kistler. Sensitivity is a subjective measure of performance depending on skill level. I said that my ALX rods are equal to NRX because I have fished with both many times and so have my partners who own NRX rods. My suggestion was to call the owner Alex and talk to him to answer any question the OP may have. Who is POC at Shimano? Kistler may be a small enough company to contact. Tom
  6. Today
  7. Check out Flukemaster's video on JJ's magic. He used a plastic container with foam inside it. Looks like it worked pretty well for him as it tipped once and didn't leak on him. It's pink on the inside now because of that:
  8. Seems like full moons have always been a curse to our fishing, but the temps and season were lining up too perfectly not to take a chance today. Thank goodness we gave it a shot. Caught over 30, including my PB largemouth. I had been throwing swimbaits most of the morning and skipped to a stick bait after no luck on some prime looking areas. First cast with the stick bait and boom goes the dynamite out to deep water stripping line like a catfish followed by a couple circles around the boat like a shark. I about had a heart attack the first time she came up to jump and I saw it was a bass and a beast of one at that. We thought she was a 10 pounder for sure, but she was a 25" fatty that weighed in at 9.1 on my scale. Busted my 110 Special rod in half about an hour later but had such a rush I didn't even care. Good times. One last pic after getting her back in the water for a breather
  9. This was not asked to me but I will also update. I was frogging with a Quantum Team KVD 6'10" HF rod last season so I expect a nice upgrade !
  10. Hey y'all, I just went to a local purveyor of kayaks with my heart set on a Native Slayer 12 Pro. It's marked down to $1100 from around $1370. Pretty sweet kayak. Seating and other features seem great. Materials are fine. Not really any dry storage - bow storage isn't exactly water-tight (not a deal breaker). Asked, on a whim, to see a Bonafide RS117 because it had comparable features at first glance... Actually, materials are better. Metal in place of plastic and the design seems a bit more stable. I primarily fish medium-sized lakes and prairie potholes and smaller rivers and streams (The Milwaukee River is the largest I fish). I want to be able to stand and fish for prolonged periods of time and still be able to handle some moderate river fishing. The Bonafide is $100 cheaper and seems like more boat, honestly. I'll be test-paddling both in two weeks. But before I do, I thought I'd ask y'all. What do you think? ~Juice
  11. I think you may be talking about the height. Yes, it does bulge the lid a bit, but not to where I can't latch it. I thought about just getting one of the deep trays like the Flambeau 9000 series and cutting my own foam. For that matter you could use one of the small plastic totes from Walmart...
  12. Anyone got some screen shots of dv or sv showing fish on this fish finder? I just purchased the Garmin EchoMAP chirp 93sv I am having trouble seeing fish.
  13. My Papa Jake was the person who influenced my love of fishing. We would go to a pond and he would tell me where to throw and why. If there were sticks sticking up he would tell me to throw there. If it was mossy and there was a break in the moss he would tell me to work it there. He used maybe 4 - 8 different lures and probably caught more fish in his life than I ever will.
  14. Manged to get two pictures resized correctly. I will try to lower it before the next time the boats out. I'm out with a pretty serious injury right now so it will be a while before Im running her
  15. It's tight, but fits. I wish they all fit as tight so I don't have to grab the jar while opening.
  16. Good, comfortable, warm clothing and quality rain gear! I worked in the woods for years and fished in cheap clothing but now only have to wear a few layers to stay warm and dry when it is below freezing or pours down rain all day long. Comfort has its price but well worth the investment.
  17. My father got me started when I was really young but the only bait we knew how to use was a weightless senko. I taught myself everything else I now know, bassresource and tactical Bassin deserve a lot of credit there.
  18. I just found this thread. I would try the Apple Tree launch between Harding and Ransom. In May, depending on the weather, you may have to look for where streams dump into the Susquehanna to find the smallmouths because the water coming into the river will be cooler. If the weather is hot I would use smaller baits like beetle spins or ned rig baits. Don't forget tubes in the 3 to 4 inch range.
  19. Shoes! On a boat or even bank fishing...comfortable shoes make a world of difference.
  20. Weightless fluke has been dynamite in small ponds here in northern Virginia, swim jigs and flipping jigs are doing great too.
  21. I've been following the same routine since Sunday: Work, come home, eat dinner, listen to a few of my wife's stories, walk the dog, then go wading. Rinse, repeat. Last night was chilly. The water was colder than usual. I got skunked for the first time in days. Defeated, I left the lake well in to darkness truly exhausted to my core. I told myself that I really needed a break, but I woke up quite early this morning refreshed somehow. I can't explain it. While walking my pooch and noticing the dark clouds and near dusk conditions it occurred to me that this really looks like great bassin' weather. Plus, we're on the edge of a full moon. "I can slip in a quick one before work" I told myself, so I did just that. Second cast throwing the Rat 30 in morning dawn I hooked a nice 2 pounder. Last night's defeat was instantly turned into victory! "Go out on a good note" I told myself, but just one more cast... I picked up the rig with a Dark Sleeper tied on and started working angles. Sixth cast and I'm hooked up. The bass takes a run at a stump in the water and starts to wrap around it. Instead of panicking and losing the fish, as I've done once before in this very spot, I gave it slack and it ran out of the trouble zone and I landed her. A nice 19"er. "OK, I'm really done now" I told myself, but just one more cast... I start chucking the sleeper again. Fast wind, then let it die, repeat. I lift the rod, then Bang! This one is heavy. I'm winding but the spool is slipping wildly. With so many spots to get snagged on I crank down the drag and pull her in. 22 inches and fat. "Go out on a good note" I told myself, and so I did. But I went back right after work and instantly got another cutie on the Rat 30. It was good day of phishin.
  22. Walking a frog with a long rod can be cumbersome and can wear you out. I use a 7'3 MagH rod for my frogging (walking and popping), but my next one will be 7'.
  23. Update us on how you like it for frogs, I'm considering upgrading my frog rod this summer.
  24. Last time I did that I got a 7 day ban!
