  2. I'd love your thoughts on what baits to throw for a new lake I've been fishing this year. The lake is pretty shallow, most of the bank fishing area is 1-4' deep. I was fishing it in early April and there was tons of sub-surface grass and I was killing it with swimbaits and ned rigs. Now that it is mid-spring, the grass has turned to grass mats and there is a ton of slimy algae. I've been catching fish on frogs and texas rigged stik-o worms but I'm looking for any other ideas of what to throw on this lake. Most of the bass are smallish, 1/2lb - 2lbs. I was wondering if punching would work in such shallow water, and if so, what plastic should I use? Thanks for any suggestions you have.
  3. I just think there needs to be some way to incorporate in incentive to target larger fish, some kind of points system maybe. I still enjoy watching, but after watching a guy catch 20 1.5 pound fish on a dropshot, it really begins to drag. Sometimes the drama still plays out if 2 or more guys are catching them at the same time, and that's what keeps people watching I imagine.
  4. Today
  5. Took Mrs. Blue out Friday night for a fancy dinner. Can't believe she's put up with my shenanigans for over 9 years now.
  6. Here's a new 7" jointed cedar bait that was inspired by a leopard shark, but with different colors.
  7. Crappie wouldn't leave me alone this week. Tons on a Ned rig, which isn't unusual Caught a toad crappie on a 1.5 I didn't take a picture of for some reason, but it was about a 14" male white crappie. Working on my dropshotting a lot this spring and managed to smack a nice black crappie doing it. The boy had to dig is heels into the side of the boat when this little channel cat took off with his Ned rig. Think I might need to put him on some bigger ones on purpose soon and get some video of it.
  8. Saw a video today of a local lake with water coming OVER the top of the flood gates with each wave coming down the lakes and even water being forced through the gates by the pressure. I'd be nervous and angry by the incompetence and failed management by the state if I lived below that dam and near it's watershed.
  9. I've also done this same real life testing. Lots of heartache, lots of swearing and regret. Certainly a strong case for "You get what you pay for".
  10. I have a red RLE. It's been a great reel that will really bomb a bait out there. I use mine mainly for larger walking baits and ploppers with 20lb braid. I haven't noticed it being difficult to control at all but maybe I just hit the settings right before I made my first cast. IMO, it's one of the top 3 KK baitcasters.
  11. 25 yds big game mono to 75 yd 20lb fluro leader. Football jig means no grass, no grass no braid.
  12. I have 10lb braid on both my Ned rig and my Drop shot rod.
  13. Something to consider; If you're fishing them in deep water, braid floats and is going to create somewhat of a bow in your line similar to when the wind is blowing hard, except towards the surface of the water. How severe will vary by depth, cast distance from boat, ect.
  14. At least he has good taste in spinnerbaits, those copper bladed War Eagles are one of my favorites.
  15. Busy couple days Thursday and Friday. Had a guy call me Wednesday night from Las Vegas to see if I was available to guide Thursday night, which I was. So until their flight got in, I went fishing (at a different lake nearby). Didn't catch many, but the quality was good when I got bit. Should have had over 20lbs with my biggest 5, but I had one of those internal dialogue moments when I made a really long cast with my little plastic on my spinning rod and said "I'll never hook it if I get bit that far out", I was right. Line moved off to deep water, gave it all I had on the hookset and didn't even start to turn the fish, then she was gone. Ended up with my 4 keepers just shy of 16 pounds in 4 hours though. Guide trip went great. 3 friends put over 60 fish in the boat in 4 hours, a mix of largemouth, green sunfish, bluegill, black crappie, channel catfish, and a first in my boat, a gizzard shad hooked in the mouth on a wacky rig. Poor guy had never seen a shad before and grabbed it by it's side to try and unhook it before I could say anything, it got a good laugh from his buddies. To cap the night, I spotted what proved to be the biggest of the evening sitting suspended next to a boat lift, and she was all over the Ned rig that landed in front of her. Had my favorite backseater with me Friday. Fishing was not terrific, but we caught plenty of fish and he got to play in the livewell and eat lots of snacks. We even went way up a creek with the high water and found a bunch of fish trapped in a big, clear pool and caught about 20 out of there. Tons of snakes cruising the creek for some reason, he was having fun watching them too. Didn't get any bass pictures, but we did get some multispecies action.
  16. I have one and it works well. Keeps my plastics all together and organized. Doesn't hold as much as they say they should but its not a bad bag.
  17. Are they the same thickness and just longer or both bigger and longer? Thanks @T.A.HawgSnatchen
  18. I've put many friends, my wife, my son, my dad, my mom, and lots of clients on their PBs, it never gets old.
  19. I downloaded this a few weeks ago when Glenn first mentioned it. First off, I fish when I want to fish and whatever number that shows up in the app doesn't influence whether I go fishing or not. Personally, I see no difference between a day that rates a 5 and one that rates a 7.5. There was one day I fished that rated a 10 and it was one of my worst fishing days this year. I got skunked despite fishing during the peak time listed and the baits recommended. Today was a 7.5 and I landed two fish in an hour before the skies opened up. Tomorrow is an 8.5 but I had already planned to fish anyway. I do keep checking the app, though, just to see if any correlation develops. So far that's a "no" for me.
  20. Great fish, and I'm impressed you got her in the net with that light tackle! She was clearly eating well all winter.
  21. I have been using Sunline Defier Armillo Nyon 25# line for all my swimbaits between 2 to 7 oz. for 3 years, good casting line and knot strength. 165 spool of 25 lb Armillo fills a 300 size Cardiff. Tom
  22. Welcome! Some very impressive fish. Wels catfish is one of my bucket list fish. I like fishing big swimbaits for bass, it's very addictive.
  23. I fish Cornell Lake too (it's 10 minutes out my door), and for soft plastics, I'd go watermelon red flake. Lake Holcomb and the Cornell flowage are both part of the Chip...green anything'll work.
  24. I had old friend who was die-hard Shakey head fan...unfortunately he passed away in 2016, before we could get out on the water together...he swore by em! I've got some shakey jig heads...whats the key to working and getting them to produce?
