  1. Past hour
  2. I have seen an explosion of blue tilapia in south Florida in the past few years. They are on average 1 or 2 pounds in size, with some quite larger. Blue tilapia are considered herbivorous, though I have caught several of them while bass fishing with moving soft plastic lures. I cannot discern whether their motivation was nutritional or defensive. They create large, round, very clean beds for spawning and hide eggs and fry in their mouths to protect them. I don't know to what degree, if any, they prey on bass eggs or fry. I am reasonably certain that bass consume small and intermediate size blue tilapia in south Florida, and anecdotally it appears that bass are bigger in lakes and ponds with abundant tilapia. I do not know what the overall ecological impact is of the tilapia. If any readers have additional information about the effects of tilapia, or about whether they have been introduced accidentally or deliberately, or whether they are now being introduced for plant and algae control, I'd like to hear from you on these pages.
  3. You can camp almost anywhere you like along the eastern shore of Kentucky Lake, since it's on the Land Between the Lakes recreation area. I have a couple of favorite spots. You do have to watch for ticks in the summer because they seem to be everywhere and they are those tiny little ones. It's the same on the western shore of Lake Barkley, although I've never fished there.

    Spinnerbaits

Over the years I have caught some bass on spinnerbaits but I have never had a banner day with them. Because of that it is one of the last baits I tend to use. I guess I need to develop more confidence in them. Are there any conditions that scream spinnerbait, or conditions that you would never consider using them?
  5. Need advice. Small inland lake, maybe 5-6 acres in Central Michigan. 25ish feet at its deepest. Water is pretty stained with lots of weeds. One small stream comes into it and another small one flows out but is dammed up so not much water flow. Most of the lake is 2-7 foot deep weed beds. I've been putting everything out there, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, top water frogs, tubes. Dark colors, light colors. No bass this year (4 days out so far) and none last year but lots of pike last year. Haven't tried live bait yet but I'm about to go grab some crawlers. Any tips or advice?
  6. I'm sure not casting 300'. The spool on my Pixy is very shallow. I doubt there's 100 yds of line on it. Regardless, I nearly spool it when I cast.
  7. You could have said this was a used reel. Just sayin.......
  8. Those are the best days ever
  9. Looks hand to have a round, but not sure I could figure how to secure to the deck.
  10. Welp here's the problem. Genius I bought it from had line strung through the holes as you can see. Snipped em out and she's castin perfecto. It still does rattle a bit more than my other casting reels but guess i can get used to it.
  11. According to the dealer it is on consignment through, it was always garage kept and if he couldn't get somewhere indoors to store it when traveling he had a heavy duty cover for it to ride under. It has a stainless prop (didn't list pitch) It has a hot foot So far as i'm aware the guy bought the boat in 2008 and it was his boat until he just recently decided to upgrade. unsure if it has a hydraulic jack plate.

    Sizzler

I got back into town yesterday afternoon and was jonesing to fish so despite the heat I went out there for about 45 minutes. Even at 5 pm it was still 95 degrees out there. It's going to be a hundred out there the next few days but I might try and get in some early evening fishing if I don't melt first.
  14. Don’t you love when you find a ‘spot’ and finally tell someone about it and they say “there?! We’ve been catching them there since the 80’s’ Columbus probably felt similar. You have Navionics on your phone? I always give that a glance when traveling from spot to spot as a non boater
  15. The stock spool in a PX68 will hold about 110 yards of 20lb power pro 8 Slick. If you're casting on a full spool and emptying it, that is around 300 -330ft. Extremely looooooooooong casts.
  16. The main goal is to be able to lob glides and swimbaits while standing in a kayak with a solid platform. Old Town Topwater, 3 Waters Big Fish, Jackson Bite are my current faves. However I also fish some small streams and rivers with decent current. Are these types of boats with stability type hulls hot garbage in a stream? Thanks guys.
  17. I was going to suggest a Pflueger President combo, but I am pretty sure it is above your price range.
  18. Well, not certain what you'd anchor these to on your boat deck, but I find these rubberized wire gear ties to be indispensable and good for about a thousand uses . . . and still counting. What is great about them is just a single twist does the trick for most applications; so, they make for a super fast release, too. I usually have a few just hanging off my kayak's seat to grab if I want to secure something very quickly. They come in different lengths. If not for your purpose, great to have around a boat. Brad
  19. same model I have. I tried the putty in the hull and the transducer won't work. That particular model transducer has to be in the water. Even the chrip wouldn't read correctly.
  20. I love dobyns/slx set up. Both the blank and reel are light. I got my Sierra last christmas from tackle warehouse for the price of the fury. The only difference I notice is the weight. I feel the seirra is lighter. I am budget angler in every way possible but I want quality gear. Both combos were around $200. Man a meet up sounds great. All my fishing buddies chase rockfish so I fish by myself a lot.
