  1. Past hour
  2. If you don't have two power poles you aren't a real bass fisherman here. Funny thing is their trolling motors have spot lock too but no one is ever sitting still
  3. American Legacy Fishing & Outfitters Warehouse always has great sales on Lew's combos. The Lew's Mach 2 combos are on sale right now at Dick's $30 off brings the spinning combo down to $99 and the Baitcaster down to $140 Sometimes it's a matter of patience. I waited for a Black Friday sale to get my Mach Crush combo for half price.
  4. Check with your local clubs. There may be some local guys with old rods they no longer need. I'd also check with any local big box stores like a Dicks or F&S. I know our local stores have donated items in the past to our club for community benefit events like this.
  5. Cabelas and quantum rods still available. $60 each or $100 for the pair.
  6. After I made the post I googled just to see if I was correct about them being discontinued. I just can never find them in stores around me which is strange. guess I will need to order at least two of each color now. hahaha
  7. Once you're done experimenting pick up some original Power Pro and call it a day.
  8. There's a fine line..fishing with the old classics vs. trying new stuff.. One day last Spring, I had one of my best days ever on a Ned rig for numbers and size. It felt like I do no wrong with it. Got back to ramp expecting others to have similar results and was surprised how slow it'd had been for most. That's one case where a "new" technique paid off.
  9. Thanks - Looks like the 6:3:1 is best used for constant retrieve baits / reaction bait strikes : Spinner Baits Chatter baits Crank Baits Swim Jigs Smaller Swim Baits I suppose you could also add poppers , dead sticking a Senko or slowly crawling a T-Rig worm or a jig on the bottom as well ... While using your rod to move a bait usually pushes you up in gear ratio (7:1:1 or faster) these lures are slow enough that a slower gear ratio doesn't affect you so much ... Still tends to be a case of the right tool for the job (with some over lap of course) .
  10. So far I've got some crappie and 2 walleyes. Waiting for things to heat up this weekend, had to break out the hand warmers today because of the high winds and light rain.
  11. I love 6.3:1s. I've tried my 7.3:1 for spinnerbaits, swimbaits, cranks, but it's way too hard to crank.
  12. Today
  13. The oldest active bass anglers I know are still on top of current techniques and lures and like me tend to fall back on what actually works. Dee Thomas (flipping) and Don Iovino (finesse) are both hall of fame bass anglers who still bass fish. Dee caught 12lb+ Jig bass about 3 weeks ago still tournaments fish, Don is still guiding, fishing local touernaments, seminars and setting up Lowrance units. Any time want to know what's new Don's knows. Me, I still fish hair jigs with pork rind trailers. Tom
  14. I've been using 50# Kanzen for frog/toad fishing for years without any issues at all. I don't know what knot you're using, but I tie the uni-knot and never had it slip. Never had Kanzen break on me, so I don't know what to tell you there.
  15. consider a sea eagle pacfish 7 ... can stand up ... food for thought ...
  16. I did not intend to mislead anyone ... by "starting spot" I am meaning an area that has all of the patterns closely available, they will need for the duration of the day. Moving to a different creek arm, may be a 30 to 60 minute run. All I am saying, is that a great bass fisherman makes multiple decisions throughout the day, and this format really limits those decisions, because they would get to far behind. IMO ...a limit on the amount of fish, would be better for the fisherman
  17. I'm looking for a crankbait blank and found the liberty rod blanks for 40$ on sale. I am looking at the 7'3" medium/heavy moderate for 8-12ft divers. I was wondering if any one has felt/used these blanks?
  18. ok, where is our James, and what have you done with him?
  19. Not a huge sale, but Sierra has free shipping no minimum order with code FREESHIP today only. They carry a lot of odds and ends fishing gear and apparel.
  20. There are lots of ways to skin the bass fishing cat. When my dad and I started bass fishing, we only had one mentor, his buddy. Well, we only fished 6" plastic worms for several years. Then I branched out to crankbaits, spinnerbaits, topwaters, The C-rig and I was bait monkey-bit thereafter. Thing is, my dad still usually caught as many or more or bigger bass than me with just that 6" worm. He just had great confidence in it. I just get great pleasure from trying a new bait and succeeding.
  21. I just picked up a Meyer's Sportspal S14 for $300 used. What I like most about it is the length and open feel. It's so wide that I feel very stable even when moving around or standing. Of all the canoes and kayaks I was able to look at the Sportspal seemed to be the best for an all around hunting and fishing canoe. It floats in hardly any water and is fairly light but awkward to carry when trying to load it on top a truck etc. Once off the truck I can easily carry it on a shoulder or balance it on my head while walking. It paddles very nicely but will require an anchor in heavy winds if you want to stay put. So far I have been very pleased in my purchase. Since you are limited in file size, here is a photo album for it I started. https://photos.app.goo.gl/7TpUSim19YZX6WZR8
  22. Welcome to the forums! Small waters are my thing too , and N.E Florida is full of them.
  23. There are still quite a few Sizzlers in Southrn California, but not as many as from their heyday in the '80s. The current ones are nice, but more expensive than they used to be. Instead of being a fast food style place to get a steak, they have repositioned themselves as a poormans Black Angus.
  24. Lowered 100 shipped. Obo want gone.
