  2. A started with Abu Veritas' and bought a Fantatista Regista 7' M/F casting rod on steep discount from Gander when they went out of business. I also own Kistler Magnesium and Heliums. They're all light as a feather, very sensitive, and are of exceptional quality. At the time the Abu retailed for $499. I believe they're $299 now, putting them closer, but still higher, than the Kistlers. After a couple years of use, I find myself taking my Kistlers out 99% of the time. Both are great rods, but subjectively I've grown to like Kistler rods more, which are made in the USA. Once you get into the $200+ price range, you're going to get a high quality product. I really comes down to handling the rod and deciding what 'feels' best to you. Best of luck picking out your new rod.
  3. As said previously, get out in the boat a few times. Get comfortable in it. It will only take a few outings before you know what accessories you’d like to have, and where to put them. You can very quickly rack up a pricey bill on accessories, and turn your kayak into Swiss cheese drilling holes. Holes are never exactly watertight after you remove something, no matter what you do to seal them. Spend a little bit of time in it before spending more money and putting in the effort.
  4. The clutch is engaging mid cast. Could be it wasn’t fully disengaged, May have bumped the thumb bar and it may be sticky and need cleaning. Any or all could be at play. I’d do it for you but honestly, the cost would approach replacement cost.
  5. I just picked up a Shimano SLX on ebay for 65 bucks! Now looking for a rod to go with it!
  6. Should've specified, 3 people in the boat kept over 100* And no don't agree with breaking the law. But also don't think the world will end either because people keep Bass. Just keep the legal amount.

    PB&J Sandwich

I one up your culinary PBJ masterpiece... Two slices of bread, peanut butter on each one. Place each one aside, peanut butter facing up. Take third slice of bread, jelly on both sides, then in between the other two slices with peanut butter. Triple decker PBJ....the Big Mac of PBJ's!
  8. The reason I fish is because of Bass, put them back in the water please... they taste like hell anyways
  9. I have some nice jerkbait from lucky craft and Jackall, I’ll fish it anywhere and don’t mind loosing some. The only one, that I only use once a year and would cry if I loos it, is this one plain old rapala hj08
  10. Heading for a weekend trip in a week and was wondering if the bedding has completed or am I still looking at prespawn?
  11. Original lures usually cost more then reproductions copied and mass produced. MegaBass is original for example and Strike is copied high production lures. Both catch will catch bass but only the original will have that specific fish catching trigger that made it popular at the higher price point. Tom
  12. So you also don't see an issue with breaking the law? Why would you keep double what was legal?
  13. This probably has something to do with it as well as i had never bent wire for lures before so i was learning by trial and error
  14. 12 year old Fish Chris thread, interesting reviewing this old thread with very little new terms added. Ike ruined "it's a giant" the term I used for DD bass over 15 lbs, Ike calls anything over 15" a giant. Tom
  15. I keep Bass. But I refuse to clean 100. I've kept 100+ warmouth, legal limit was 50 a piece. That many Bass is ridiculous
  16. When I get these I will go through them and anything I don't think I will use I will let you know and I will donate them to your team.

  18. More expensive baits aren't necessarily better than expensive baits. They are different. Take lipless cranks for example. The Cotton Cordell Super Spot and the Bill Lewis Rattle trap are probably the best two options in the entire market, and the in the SK Red eye shad is in the mix somewhere too. All the cheapest on the market. However, in certain applications those baits just won't be able to produce for you like a Lucky craft or a Jackall would. Say for example your fish are on a lipless bite deeper in the water column and you want to work it off the bottom similar to a jig, or work it through the strike zone slowly. The super spot and the bill lewis are too light of baits for these applications and you'd catch more fish with the LC or jackall. That doesn't mean that they catch more fish because they are more expensive, it's the characteristics of the bait and how it runs that make it better for some circumstances than others. Same goes for Jerkbaits. I fish vision 110's, LC flash pointers, Jackall Rerranges, all great for certain applications, but sometimes the Rapala Ripstop just can't be beat. Another example would she the YUM Dinger. Some days I can chuck a Gary at a bed fish for hours with nothing, switch to a dinger and have the fish hammer it right off the bat. Not because the fish liked the fact it was a cheaper bait, but because dingers have less salt content than a Gary causing it to have a slower fall, which is what they wanted that day. It's more important to know the qualities of each bait rather than the price tag and choose which best suits your application!
  19. I use Pflueger President reels for my UL rods, one a 20 size and one a 25 size. I have a 30 size Quantum Smoke that does 36" per handle turn. I imagine that reel in a smaller size would not be that much per handle turn, but I bet its close to that.
  20. Question: What pound test braid are you using? Ever consider Mono? I'd never use braid for a UL rig, it's too thin for the pound test I set up on my UL rig...digs in to itself. The 1000R retrieves at 27" per turn of the handle, that's fairly fast for smaller-spool spinning reels. Reels in the same price range as the Sahara with faster retrieves. Mitchell 308 Pro - 30.5" per turn. Pflueger President XT 30 - 31" per turn. Abu Garcia Elite Max 20 - 31.3" per turn. I'm a Pfluger/Mitchell/Abu fan from way back.
  21. Spinning- Plfueger President all day Baitcasting- Abu Garcia Revo Sx Had issues with Shimanos, 2 pfluegers still going strong after 4 years of use and abuse.

    PB&J Sandwich

Peanut butter on both pieces of bread jelly in the middle, so the jelly doesn’t soak through 😇
  23. Asleep at the switch! Could have used these for the HS fishing team I sponsor. Let me know if you do more.
  24. Ello Been a long time lurker around these forums, they’re a great wealth of information but this is the first time I’ve found myself completely stumped. I’ve been looking for a spinning reel designed for ultralight fishing. Currently my rod is a Fenwick HMG 7’0 UL Moderate action weighing 4 pounds. My lures rarely weight above 1/8 oz but this rod can handle up to 1/4 oz. I prefer inline spinners if that helps. Currently I’m targeting trout but might advance to other small fish. I was using a Sahara 1000R (5.2:1) but find that my casts don’t get much distance, and I need to reel pretty quick to get the blade moving on my spinners (I tried multiple brands). Do do you think I need a reel with a higher gear ratio so I can reel slower, and a wider spool for distance (which I’m not even sure about because I use braid). Any recommended models? Thanks for any information.
  25. I go with Junebug most often but I do throw B&B, usually more so for craw baits. I don’t remember why... I’m getting old. I didn’t know it was legal to throw a jig that’s not black & blue.
  26. I would mount them up the way you like. Worst case is you have to run one on 800kHz and the other on 455kHz to eliminate interference with the side and down views. I'm not familiar with what Lowrance is using for 2d but Garmin uses 200kHz. My personal belief is that the chances that you will get interference between the transducers is very minimal. Think about all the times you have been using them when another boat passes by. Does your display show interference then? Sometimes there may be but I would venture to guess that the majority of the time there is none. The frequency the transducers work at provided by the manufacturer is the middle of the range. 455kHz by Garmin can be anywhere between 425 and 485. The crystals used to generate and receive the sound waves are very specific at the frequency they vibrate at. They won't pick up signals from other transducers that are using a different frequency.
  27. I have 4 speed demon pro rods. 1:medium action jig/worm casting rod 2 medium action jerkbait casting rod. 3: medium/light shakyhead spinning rod. 4: medium action squrebill crankbait rod. they are nice rods for the money. I also own 4 Dobyns fury rods. they cost on average $10.00 more than the speed demon pro. I prefer the KastKing rods over the Dobyns. Mainly because of the winn grips. A medium action speed demon pro is very similar to the medium/heavy Dobyns.
