  2. My first casting reel was a red ABU5000 that my older brother gave me. I retired that one years ago. It's a classic reel that I'm sure many others have used also. Nothing wrong with still fishing it, but there are so many newer lighter faster reels on the market for good prices these days. For the cost of upgrading it, you could probably get a new reel. I would keep it for sure, being a gift from your grandfathet
  3. Daiwa Aird-X 7' MH/F spinning rod - $54 Amazon Daiwa Legalis LT 2500 spinning reel - $52 Amazon Just a bit over $100, but these a really high quality and will last a long long time.
  4. Are you talking just the rod, or rod and reel? Also - spinning or baitcasting?
  5. Here’s my thing with Lews, I wanna try one because I know they’re good but they have like a million different reels. I have a decent budget but i know you don’t necessarily have to drop $300 to get a nice reel. What are the differences between their reels, again I’m looking for small, light and smooth reeling.
  6. Yeah i knew that but at $49 this rod is a fantastic deal so I thought I'd pass it along :).
  7. Hello, I was wondering what could be a good fishing rod for a beginner under $100 for fishing bass?
  8. If you catch a really big bass, is it a big old good one, or a good old big one?
  9. Nice! Yea, I actually picked up 40 lb braid. I bought a new rod for my spinners and put a 24 inch steel leader on er. That's my northern setup. Than I have my AG Pro Max baitcaster combo with a cheap wally world frog and 40 lb braid. Than I have a little Lew's spinner on a cheap cabela's rod with a wacky worm on a 30 pound braid. My kayak has two rod holders but I think I can use a paddle strap.
  10. I was just gonna say that he should check out Lew’s. They are mostly all small, compact reels, except for the super duty’s, and they are very smooth. I have a Custom Inshore SLP and it is extremely smooth. You could also just get the normal Custom SLP for like $160 instead of $200.
  11. The Lews Tournament MB is a small reel that is reliable and smooth and doesn't break the bank.
  12. A thermos keeps hot drinks hot and cold drinks cold. How do it know?
  13. My reoccurring dumb thought. Me to myself after waking up: I will do _________ and then have coffee.
  14. Why was Pavlov's hair so soft and silky? Because he conditioned it.
  15. I am guessing its been a while since you have gotten on the water. You might want to try getting your line stretched.
  16. i'm looking for sellers on here! haha thanks for the referral though!
  17. I too prefer the smaller size of the SLX over my K's. Try the Curado 70.
  18. What a weird sale. So it's 20% off if you buy a minimum of $50, and 20% off if you buy $100, but less than 20% if you buy between $50 and $100. Like only 10% off if you buy $99.
  19. That was the bag I used last summer! The cool part about that bag is the two velcro straps in the back can hang on your wading belt, taking some weight off your shoulder.
  20. I'm down from 228 to 212 since the first of the year with diet and excercise..including a pushup program (up to 1600 total right now) and some weights. Long way to go but I can tell a huge difference in the way I feel. Fishing all day is much easier.:)
  21. That’s the hope... I give her a lot of credit - she very willingly took care of our 3 kids many times when I went off with my dad or buddies on numerous fishing trips. Now the nest is empty, so hopefully more of she and I getting out. Always a good sign when she actually asked to go and talked a little trash on the boat as she out-fished me First time I got her out on the “PVB.” She had mixed feelings at the time when I bought it while paying for 3 kids in college... but she raved about it last night... Progress..! She caught a couple great fish... I cracked up when I told her she could use any lure she wanted... And she picked a pink Caffeine Shad because it matched her lipstick... but I can’t argue with the results!
  22. Why do we drive on the Parkway and park on the Driveway?
  23. Carhartt T-Shirt and plenty of sunscreen and bug repellent. If I had to wear long sleeves it would be a button up like @Catt I always wear jeans and boots when bank fishing even in 100 degree heat. It's more for ticks than sun protection. Not the ideal wardrobe for staying cool by any means. When it gets that hot I bring plenty of water and find shady spots to fish.
  24. Today
  25. The novelty is what is gonna get me to buy it. The times I tie it to a string in the mailbox or the kids towel drawer are gonna be worth the 9 bucks for me.
  26. I would recommend the Lew's Custom Pro Speed Spin. 11+1 Stainless steel ball bearings, Aluminum body and sideplate with flush and drain port, C60 Carbon skeletal rotor with fat aluminum bail wire, Lightweight double anodized knurled (braid ready) aluminum spool, Smooth sealed carbon multi-disc drag system, Aluminum handle with Winn Dri-Tac knob, 6.2:1 gear ratio. All that and it looks fantastic as well. It's my favorite spinning reel.
