  1. Past hour
  2. Lil bit of everything on the old swimbait and trap this afternoon.
  3. If you don't like that their something wrong with you!😀😍😀
  4. Not sure about that combo but the Penrod special is a #3 chart. Colorado over a #5-6 Gold Indiana blade, black head with chart/white w/purple pearl skirt. Everyone asks me to make them some sort of version of this at our local shows. Personally a whitish/shad colored bait with 4.5 and 5 size silver willows on a compact 1/2oz bait works best for me. Allen
  5. I’m somewhat local to the area and can set up a meet and eat somewhere that shouldn’t be too crowded those days. I could suggest restaurants and hotels for those traveling from out of town. Right now most of the interstate system going through Birmingham is demolished and being built, I’m hoping that it is open then. Should be.
  6. I'm in NY, not the south, but...I night wade during the summer. Last season I was pretty far out and above my waist when a Smithsonian sized snapping turtle cruised within inches of me. It was the size of an ottoman. The reptile core of my brain told me to flee to safety, so I did. I realize a turtle isn't a crocodilian or a venomous snake, but the beak on this thing was terrifying. I sped home and googled "titanium underwear".
  7. For the record you have heard it now. My opinion is that Dobyns rods are tip heavy. Ymmv
  8. First decent smallie of the year! Couldn’t find the fish all day, this was the only fish landed. At least it was a good one!
  9. Bass feeding, not sure. Me fishing, weather.....meaning I fish when I can. If I don't have a class to teach, a game to coach, a game to watch my kids play in or anything else more important to do I will be fishing weather permitting.
  10. Thanks TnRiver46, and I agree, it just gets too many other anglers. Seems like the weekend warriors that travel from far away are at a disadvantage (like any body of water really). I try not to get too fixated on the seasons, but I do like to establish some sort of pattern if possible. Seems like I could have had some pattern going if I had more time to fish, only had 2 days. Was supposed to have 3 days but lost one due to a late arrival because of horrible traffic on I-77 and again on I-81. Anyways, you've had difficulty on that lake too eh?
  11. I’ve been using pp yellow this year. Great line so far no problems with it on bedding fish. But if your happy with white why change? Just a question I went to yellow as it was the only visible color my shop stocked.
  12. [April 22, 2019] It's been a long winter... working on fishing tackle projects, waiting for the snow to melt, and the ice on the lake to thaw. My buddy and I headed out for our first fishing trip of 2019 back on April 15th, 2019, but we both zeroed. Water was cold & dirty (~45 degrees, >1ft clarity), and there had been two tournaments the past two weekends. Not making excuses, just the conditions were tough. We fished area's we had history with in the past and tried to hit high percentage areas that we know hold fish... but it didn't work. So a week passes, we get a few more days of warm weather, and come up with the idea to fish a completely new location and area of the lake that neither of us have ever fished before. No history or memories to worry about, we will have only our instincts and what we have learned to guide us through our fishing day... When we got to the ramp we could see the water clarity was around 3-4ft, water temp was around 46-50 degrees, and the forecast showed today to be sunny through the morning, then become overcast with falling pressure and wind in the early to late afternoon. We both knew bass are currently in the pre-spawn phase, so it's a matter of finding where they are staging and what they will react to. The new area we fished was amazing, literally everything looked good from rocky points, to boulders, to deep water breaklines, to docks & laydowns, you name it. We fished so much amazing looking stuff for hours and hours without a bite constantly covering water, throwing lipless crankbaits, spinnerbaits, deep diving crankbaits, jerkbaits, softbaits, bladed jigs, jigs, over and over and over until my arm was sore. "Keep Grinding" I told myself as I had in my mind today's success could come from a specific location or time of day or even a combination of both. Well the night before our trip I did a little research on Google Earth and Navionics, and found three key locations that looked good. Well the day was now about over, and we were on the last one. It was the last major secondary point before you get to the back of the cove where the spawning area would be. It had an area off the point with ~10-15ft before it breaks off into 30+. By this time in the day the clouds had rolled in along with the wind and it was becoming harder to control the boat. Not only could I now see the ramp we launched from this morning, I could also make out the truck and trailer - we were that close to the end of our day. It only took a couple of casts (par usual when fishing around fish) and I felt the rod load up... 1st Bass of 2019 - 18 & 1/4'', 2lb 13oz / 2.88lb 6th Sense Curve 55 (Crackle Craw) WolfyBrandon
  13. Quote, "What's more, because of their die process, there is no finish residue to muck up your guides, rod, or reel." from http://tackletour.com/reviewfinaticbraid.html Unfortunately it isn't yellow. It does come in blue.
  14. Have you ever had to remove a tip top that you put on with 5 minute epoxy? Been researching it and I'm seeing mixed comments. Some say you will damage the tip with the heat required to remove 5 minute epoxy, some say you won't. What is your experience with it?
  15. I saw one of these clock 11 mph, using paddle!
  16. I had a MinnKota with the fob and wireless foot pedal. Two weeks after I bought it, I sold it. I couldn't get used to the idea of turning down the power before I took my foot/finger off the control. I'd go to move and the thing would still be at max thrust. Knocked me on my keester one time an it was back to a Tour Edition MotorGuide. I only wish they offered spot lock because I'd use the heck out of that feature.
  17. I'm looking at upgrading to a 112 Fortrex. Was wandering from someone who has used one if the acceleration is "all at once" and will jerk you out of the boat, if it accelerates gradually when you hit the button.
  18. Natural gas all the way. When I was a kid, back in the 40s, I can remember a commercial on billboards by the oil companies. Gas had a slogan. Go modern, go gas. The oil companies took advantage of the wording and on billboards they had, "Go modern. Go gas. Go boom" The billboards didn't last long. The gas company sued the oil companies and a judge ordered the oil companies to remove those ads. Here are the advantages to gas. If you don't have it, you'll need an electric range and an electric clothes dryer. Gas will save many dollars in the short or the long run. And you may need an electric hot water heater as well, though you can incorporate hot water into the heating system. Gas furnaces do not need an annual servicing to keep it clean and efficient. No need to have a storage facility on your property like you do for oil.
  19. If you go with the binders, let me know how that works.
  20. Just got back from Harbor Fright to get some heat tubes - In a few days, I will attempt to try one or two to see how it looks.
  21. Their baits (especially the "bandito bug" and their craw) are just Strike King rage tail/bug knockoffs. They use the exact same patent for the claws. I kinda like the profile of the bandito bug more, but that's probably more catching me than catching fish. They're more of a crawdad scent rather than coffee too (which I actually prefer. Plastic+coffee=🤢), which probably doesn't matter imo.
  22. Today
  23. Falcon without a doubt 😉 FYI: Falcon Lowrider does come in full cork or split! LFC-7H-7' Carolina Lizard Dragger LFC-73HH-7' 3" Amistad
  24. Thank you for the initial review and great pics... really looking forward to hearing your on the water reports.
