  3. I have been bank fishing for the past 2 weeks and out of those 2 weeks I have only gotten like 2 or 3 fish I don't know if its my lure choice or just the hot weather I have tried chatter baits, rattle traps, jigs, texas rigs, topwaters and haven't been to successful with those.
  4. What model is the 7'1" MHXF rod? That is the only bottom contact rod you listed. Let's focus on 1 rod at a time. Tom
  5. i have 2 of the 7foot medium moderate for cranks topwater and jerkbait , 7'1 heavy fast for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits , 7'1 mhxf, and the 7'4 frog rod. Dobyns daiwa megabass kistler... no St.croix 13 duckett they don't make good rods
  6. Love TNG and DS9 - looking forward to the new show.
  7. I would have dropped dead from the heat. Navy blue and 102* doesn't mix well in my book
  8. Helps to know that at the start. Right or left hand? Seek and ye shall find. Try a Search. Sometimes you have to wait for the deal you are looking for. Example: Walmart can have some very good deals, but you have to watch daily as the price fluctuates. One day you might get an item at 10% off and the next week 40% off. ebay prices vary as well.

  11. Is it worth it? I would say yes but it takes some getting use to. It is somehow slightly smoother than the K. I had heard of some people not having that great of luck with theirs but mine has been flawless. I have paired it with a St. Croix Legend Glass 7' M Mod and it will cast just about any crankbait a country mile without backlashing. I have been using it since the beginning of the year just about every weekend and it just keeps getting better. Also, I was able to pick mine up from DSG online for $199. I caught this one last weekend on this combo with a Megabass Deep X.
  12. Let us know how dropping Dobyns works out for you. If you have taken care of your rods they will have good resale value. Tom
  13. You are talking rods out of my budget. Rods in that price range I'd like to try...in no particular order: Poison Adrena, Expride, Orochi XX, Helium 3, Witch Doctor, IMX Pro and Fenwick World Class. At a lower price and still a bit much for me: KLX, iRod Air, Hammer JAK, Cara T7, Techna PX, Levante and ALX Expert. Like my Zolos (on sale or I wouldn't have any ). Also the Villain 2.0 is getting some good reviews. Picked up the 6'10" ML casting rod (on sale naturally), but only out once with it so far. I'm sure there are others. That is a nice price range to be in. Good luck finding the line you'd like to try.
  14. Absolutely no way am I going to try that hook removal technique. I just went to the ER a week ago to get two treble hook points removed from my hand. I have taken hooks out myself before. I cut them off the treble and push them on through. I don't cut the barb off and back them out. One of them I could have taken out but the other one was in deep and I was worried I could damage a ligament or tendon in my thumb if I tried to do anything with it. Fortunately the doctor was able to push both of them out without causing a problem.
  15. I have the Dobyns Champ 736 to cover the heavy jigs. I have a tatula elite finesse for the finesse jigs. I now am after a 3/8 to 1/2oz jig rod. I want to spend $300 so GLoomis is out of the question. I am thinking Dobyns Exteme dx744c or the MegaBass FMJ. Extreme sensitivity is the goal obviously. Anything else is just a bonus. I have read the DX744 vs Dx745 debates and I feel that I always buy the higher powered rod when in question hence owning the DC736 for a frog rod. I want to get a 4 power because I don't have any in that range and I have read the DX744 is more like a 4.5 power which will excel at 1/2oz jigs and be ok with 3/4oz. I think that the dx745 would also be very similar to my dc736. The 2 mentioned rods can be had for less than $300. I know I can get the MB right now for that. The Dobyns would have to wait until it pops up in the refurnished store or else get a used one. I could also be talked into the DX784 stick if anyone would care to comment on that. You guys hit the nail on the head when steering me in the right direction for a crankbait rod and dropshot rod and your advice is much appreciated. Again... The main priority is sensitivity... not best value for my buck. I wish I could afford to try a GLoomis because I always read that their rods are what other manufacturers try to achieve as far as sensitivity is concerned. I would get one if it could be had for $300.
  16. Which one do you have? I have been loving mine!
  17. were you finding the newer ones for $140? Where? Thanks

  19. If it really sucks out, curly tailed magnum worm, or other large slow moving bait, fish it either in the weeds, or if you can get to it some deeper water, best thing though is remember to stay hydrated and not give up, summer fishing isn't for the faint of heart, but nothing is better than baking your butt off and thinking it's never going to happen and then feeling a fish nab that worm/jig/craw...makes the work worth it...mostly lol
  20. Coloring the last X amount of feet of braid black to "blend in" but we use black lures to stand out.
  21. I was 14, still remember it like yesterday.
