  1. Past hour
  2. I bought one before they sold out on TW. I love it. Super smooth. I wish I could get another at the sale price of $110.
  3. I posted this on a previous thread about barometric pressure. I've read all the research on barometric pressure, water temperatures, moon phases, length of sunlight, weather & so on. This pre-spawn has debunked every single one! Everywhere the bass should have been they weren't & everywhere the shouldn't have been they were. Everything they should have been doing they weren't & everything shouldn't have been doing they were. The guys that were successful ignored all of that & simply went fishing!
  4. I have a Major Craft NAS-WJ-701MH spinning rod for your application, $120. Tom
  5. My wife has a MHF baitcaster, but she invariably uses her 7' MHF Daiwa spinning rod with 3500 size reel, spooled with 20#PP, more often for the exact presentations you list above. In fact, she was setting the hook just fine with frogs on it last fall....much to my surprise
  6. For $99 tatula ct , all day. With the bushings that support the main shaft on the slx , it just doesn't spin as freely as the tatula reels. You can buy bearings for the slx but , by the time you've done all of that , you could have bought the curado k off one of the auction sites for what you paid for extra bearings. Lew's - are oem reels , not something I'd consider but , to each his own.
  7. Thanks. That's what I was thinking too. I always hear you can't get a hookset on a spinnerbait with a spinning rod, but I would think on a MH spinning rod with a larger reel and braid, it should be more than adequate. I use a MH/MF composite rod and don't have any issues myself! Also between both my sons and myself, I believe we have a total of 10 casting rods in the house she can learn on as well -- and as of his birthday it will be 11 because he's getting a MH/F for his birthday this year (he has a MH/MF spinnerbait rod because he really likes spinnerbaits and crankbaits so that's the happy medium for both).
  8. Flatrock

    Finally

It is small, but it still measured 10" 😁
  9. Me and some friends are kicking around the idea of doing a small jon boat tournament on walter e long lake during the summer. 16 ft max, just for some fun. Maybe $20 entry first 3 places take all. We are just getting ideas now, if anyone is interested pm me.
  10. When you are catching steady five pounders your first six will be showing up shortly. 😀
  11. Dean I would just get her a mhf spinning rod that covers 3/8-3/4 weights. Let her tell you when she wants to upgrade if ever to a casting setup. There are plenty of competent anglers who only use spinning tackle & do very well with it. Most bass fisherman think of spinning tackle as a finesse presentation delivery system but it can cover all the bases for bass fishing.
  12. When I bought my house, I had a late 60s oil boiler and no hot water tank - it literally heated the water in the pipes with no mixing valve and put it out my faucet around 150 degrees, so you could easily get a first degree burn by putting your hand under the hot water. When cleaned, it used 30 gallons a month just for hot water for the family, and when not cleaned (when I was converting to gas and trying to use the remaining oil anyway), that number jumped to 120 -- just for hot water alone. I spent a total of $6000 on oil that year and kept my heat at 60 until pipes started freezing. I will also add heating oil was over $4/gallon that year. I have since converted to gas, and I kept my thermostat at least at 73 last winter primarily because my feet are extremely sensitive to cold as a result of chemo (even with three pairs of socks on) and I still spent under $2000 for the year on gas. My house is small, but plank so I can't really insulate it any more than it already is. I did not get a "high efficiency unit" but got a traditional unit that burns the gas and not the fumes and the efficiency is very close to most high efficiency units without having radiant flooring. My installer explained how the high efficiency units are fussy, often need to be cleaned like oil and they had a lot of known issues plus they cost more upfront then they'll likely ever save in their lifespan. I'm not too worried about gas exploding. For what it's worth, modern natural gas in large amounts does not ignite like gasoline for your automobile does and while occasionally there are explosions, they are rather rare -- and it seems more often they are large commercial units, not newer residential units. In a new and well maintained unit, I should be fine. When I bought the house, I was expecting to switch to a gas stove as well, but as it turns out the electric stove that came with the house is actually very good and the oven is the best oven in any place I've ever lived. But generally gas stoves are usually much better for cooking.
  13. That's one of the newer IMX'S. They got the face lift with the rings in the cork and red accents about 6 years or so ago. The 844 and MBR's in general are really versatile.. I caught a bunch of spinnerbait fish on the old IMX and GLX versions.
  14. The Month Long KBF State Challenge(s) for MN looks interesting. It's nice that they allow canoes and electric motors - the other Kayak group that's operating a tourney in MN restricts it to Kayaks ONLY and manual propulsion. Unfortunately, the fee to join the group to be eligible combined with the fee for the challenge itself puts it out of my reach for this year...maybe next year.
  15. Hey guys, My girlfriend's birthday is coming up and she's been coming fishing this year and really enjoying it. I was going to get her her own rod that she can use -- she has been using a M/F spinning rod, but where we were fishing, it's a little underpowered for the weeds -- and really will be once they start to grow in. I have tried to teach her a baitcaster, but she had a very hard time and got really frustrated, so I am looking for a spinning rod that could handle weighted soft plastics, 3/8oz jigs and maybe even a chatterbait or a spinnerbait. Has anyone ever tried any of these techniques on spinning gear? I get the impression that most med. heavy spinning rods are more inline with a medium casting rod that runs slightly heavy as well, and I'm aware it would need a larger reel to help with hooksets. I'll probably also use braid for the same reason. I almost feel like I should buy her a casting rod (she'd have more fun if she learned it anyway) but I'm not sure if she has the kind of patience to learn and that I won't be buying myself a present.
  16. I’m really enjoying mine so far as well. I still have plenty of line on the spool to cast with even with the shallow spool. From my experience, the MSRP was pretty spot on as far as placement in Daiwa’s line up. It’s been a great reel so far and it feels like one that’s going to last. It’s definitely high quality
  17. The 5 biggest format guys quit fishing as well. They have an idea of what they need to catch each day, and once they get that they save those fish for another day. T. Horton came back to the dock early and ordered pizza because he knew he had the tournament one. I personally think the biggest thing BPT has done is figure out how to keep score live. It's nice as a viewer to watch the coverage and know the standings. Counting every fish keeps everyone in contention longer in the event vs. largest 5, where 1 big fish can completely change things.
  18. Anyway, like I was sayin', chatterbaits is the fruit of the lake. You can burn it, slow roll it, fish it like a jig, lift it and let it fall, rip it through the grass. Dey's uh, big chatterbaits, small chatterbaits, and medium chatterbaits.
  19. Today
  20. my mileage .... using high gear ratios 7:1 and up for most everything now ...do use old bc with 6:4 for some spinnerbait fishing ... better rhythm... all my old baitcasters are now on the closet shelf ... good fishing ...
  21. I always gathered they were very similar, hence why I have yet to try them.
  22. I used fishing lures , casted them out and reeled them back in. Oh and I casted them into the water haha 🤣.. all jokes aside. I usually throw jerkbaits and cranks during this time, I let them tell me how fast or slow. Today was a moderate pace
  23. I'm not at all concerned about battery power. Having a voltmeter to monitor all of your battery's state of charge is all you need to never run out of power. Ignoring the voltmeter and not using it at all will get you stranded. As far as smart phone monitoring goes, you can get used smart phones for nearly free that do NOT NEED a cell connection to monitor many apps. My GoPro cameras only need a WiFi connection which has nothing to do with the cell data. I have an old Android phone on my boat for the specific purpose of aiming my three cameras. You only need internet connectivity to a WiFi hot spot ONCE to download the app (talking Android here) and then apps run happy as a clam. My electrical / electronic stuff, DF, GPS, bilge pump, LED lighting, for the most part do not put much of a dent in my house battery, and at the end of the day, I'm supremely confident it has way more than enough capacity should my I run my TM batteries to low or have a battery failure. I think my electronics package is of little concern unless I ran into a typhoon at night 🙂
  24. How did you catch them? What was the pattern?
  25. You can't transport live fish in Califorina without a permit and 5 bass you need a valid California fishing license to transport dead fish, can't be alive. If caught poaching fish or game you everything envolved in the act including any future licenses. Fines are a judgement made by the courts, the DFW and local Sheriff confiscate whatever you were caught using to poach with and arrest you. I remember years ago that several hundred walleyes were poached in Canada by anglers from Iowa and the Minnesota DNR caught the poachers and they only got a small fine, everyone was ticked off, hopefully things have changed. Tom
  26. 3 divisions may not be practical for most local/regional events. I am conflicted.
