  2. Started fishing again after 6 years. So i'm crazy happy. I unboxed my rods and reels and they were spooled from when I boxed em up. Mostly PowerPro (30lb - 60lb) with either Fluorocarbon or Mono leaders. Should I respool all 12 reels? Is the line on my old spools still good? Is the line that's still in its original packaging still good?
  3. What weight do you consider light, under 3.5 oz ? what action, power and length, all factors affect weight. Tom
  4. The only way out would cause some seriously hard times and probably start a civil war, and since going any further with that would get into politics, I will just leave it at that.
  5. Seems great for small water - I would buy it
  6. I’ve caught plenty of bass working the bottom with a Texas rigged D bomb
  7. I have a few that I have found - Phenix feathers, kistlers, daiwa steez and the Posion Adrena. Is there any other brand that has rods that are considered light weight?
  8. Lol thanks for the clarification on the reels. Haha
  9. A little more than a year ago when I was just starting to get into freshwater fishing, I made the unfortunate mistake of walking into a used gear store. I needed tackle to catch…something. I wasn’t certain where I'd fish or what for, nor did I really know anything about what worked and what didn’t. So, I ended up getting taken by the old fishing captain/store owner who was just looking to offload junk. Decently priced junk, but still mostly junk. One of the things he talked me into was this secret weedless wonder bait that was going to be produced for the inventor by a major tackle company until "their legal team decided that the lure might technically be considered a switch blade." As a result, the inventor gave up and sold all of his leftover stock to my store owner friend, who generously offered them to me at $5 each. The key to this lure’s “weedlessness” is that the hooks are held captive in the body by spring tension and, at least theoretically, pop out when the trigger plate is activated by fish jaws closing around it. In reality, the hooks typically spring out upon contact with water after even moderate length casts. But the worst part of this thing is that it has ABSOLUTELY NO ACTION WHATSEVER! I don’t even know what kind of bait its supposed to be. It looks like a crankbait but it doesn’t dive or swim. It basically comes straight through the water like a painted stick. You can’t jig it or jerk it, and it sinks, so its not a topwater either. It doesn't much matter, though, because the body is bass sized but the hooks are only really appropriate for pan fish. Ultimately, this thing’s only use is to remind me to avoid gimmicky junk only designed to catch fishermen. What’s the dumbest lure you’ve wasted time and money on?
  10. I know Catt still using his big game, I have 12lb on reel for topwater and still have 25lb full spoon for my swimbait. As high as my ten fingers and 10 toes around. Wait a minute oh I’m normal.
  11. I fish them on swinging football heads a ton. They're also a good jig trailer when they don't want a lot of action but want a lot of bulk. They work good on a shakyhead too, especially the smaller sizes.
  12. I have a 08 ranger and the side carpet buncks boots are all broken away from the fiberglass. There appears to only have been a small amount of fiberglass lip there to bolt to. Any ideas on how to attach the bunk back to the trailer?
  13. Besides the SK Midnight special I do not buy any commercial baits unless someone wants me to make one. I am at a point where I can talk to someone on the phone a create a spinnerbait that will work for them 95% of the time. Too many people get caught up in the hype of ICAST or what some pro said. In my area the same 4 baits have produced for at least a decade and still continue to work. Allen
  14. 100% out on that thing. Nothing much creepier than a big, nasty spider, fake or not.
  15. I’m on a fishing trip on a river in the UP of Michigan. The water levels were high when we arrived on Tuesday morning and have steadily gone up. High, fast water usually pushes bass tight to the bank, out of the current. Tuesday afternoon, and this (Wednesday) morning, fishing was slow. The water was cloudy and even making casts to slack water along the shore didn’t produce much. One here, one there on wacky rigs, Senkos, and the Whopper Plopper. We took a break for lunch and to rest, and went back out for a couple of hours in the afternoon. Somebody threw the switch that turned the smallies on. The only real change that was apparent, was the cloud cover that came in advance of some storms due later tonight into tomorrow. The Whopper Plopper bite was on fire. The number of fish wasn’t remarkable, but the average size was. In the 50 plus years of chasing smallmouth, I’ve never had such a day. The biggest was “only” 19 inches, but only 1 of the 30 smallmouth was less than 16 inches. Almost every one was 17 inches. Getting them to the boat through the fast current gave us everything we could handle. A fish would turn sideways in the current and was nearly impossible to move. We never would have guessed after the previous sessions of the last day that such a change was coming.

  17. Thanks, much appreciated. I’m definitely a Gama in-line circles guy so I’ll probably just toss these. Someone left a huge ball of line with these hooks entangled. Trashy.
  18. Looking a for a drop shot set up mainly just a rod. Looking for a medium lite around 7 foot and fast action. anyone have suggestions or looking to sell one?
  19. Today
  20. Just bought a Lew’s Mach II speed spool and took it out. Made less than 10 casts with a 1/2 oz spinner, hooked a bass in the 1# range and had a lot of trouble getting it in. One cast later and the spool would not reel in. I pulled the reel apart and the spool shaft pulls right out of the spool. Not sure if it’s supposed to be press fit, staked, or pinned. There is no sign of damage or rub marks on anything. Has anyone ever seen this before?
  21. I went too long without drinking anything during a hot guide trip last Friday. Took a big drink of really cold water and had to drop to a knee to keep from falling over. It can happen fast, and I know better than to go very long without drinking water when it's this hot out, but even a hour can be too long when it's pushing triple digits.
  22. 4-0 EWG for me is by far the most versatile hook and can be used with almost all plastics. However, I do prefer 5-0 round bend worm hooks for big worms and snelled straight shank for punching. I get too many gut hooks with 3-0 or smaller. I like Trokar hooks if I'm not using braided line.
  23. Which model are you looking at? The Calcutta BFS?
  24. Spinnerbaits is one that I knew I wasn't going to save money making, but I can make ones that I can't go to the store and buy (although the new Covert spinnerbaits from Booyah aren't too far off).
  25. I paid $175 for my Scorpion BFS XG in Mint condition.
