  2. What's everyone buying this black Friday from tackle warehouse or any other place!?! Just got all this and it should set me up for getting more serious about dropshotting!

  3. Hey all, Yesterday I went to the river (its really the size of a stream though), and waded down it in pursue of multiple species. I caught multiple brook trout, and one rainbow. This is my new winter hobby since the lakes are frozen and so are the bass. The river is freezing cold but has a constant flow and never freezes.

  4. hey all Like it says first and best for me! I've been trying jigs off and on these past few weeks with No luck. I've been reading and came to a conclusion I'm doing it wrong lol I had been tossing the jig beside cover and stumps and Logs in the creek here with no luck Today I walked to the deepest widest spot I knew Threw it in the upper middle and let it sit 40 seconds gave a solid jerk and let it sit Began a slow twitch drag back to me The saying that practice makes an angler is true I have learned to distinguish the feel of a rock or a twig Hitting my jig When this fish bit it was dead center of this hole. The jig was slowing grinding and bouncing across the bottom And then it got heavy, there was no hi frequency vibration I associate with a stick or rock hang up So I gave her a solid jerk and held pressure Nothing Nothing Nothing Then old girl pulled back So exciting

  12. Went out fishing for 7 hours on Saturday and it made up for my lack of fishing the past 2 weeks. Started at noon and averaged about 2 fish per hour until 6pm. It was a bit slow but the bites were big, we had our top 5 fish by 5pm. The bite started to pick up at 6pm, we found a school of 3-4lb fish on a 6ft rock flat and ended up with 30 of them in the last hour of fishing. It was unreal and probably the best fishing I've personally had in MN for pure size. My father-in-law broke off a 5.5lber at the boat right at the end that would have put us over the 28lb mark, but at that point it didn't even matter. All the fish were caught on 3/8oz NSCB jigs, either the New Gill Flip and Swim or Flippin Blue Knockout Jig .Here are the pics of our top 5 fish. Weights were, 5.97, 5.7, 5.5, 5.48, and 4.67

  13. I would look at the power of the individual rods. I know they are both mediums, but the Lightning Rod is a pretty stiff rod, IIRC. I like a rod with a little power in the tip, that makes it easier for me to make a jerk bait "dance". A really limber rod works me to death fishing a jerkbait, lol. But, I think though that the Lightning Rod, being stiffer, will end up with some lost fish due to jerkbaits being treble hook lures. For me a jerkbait rod is something with a little more power than a crankbait rod, but not as stiff as, say, a spinnerbait or worm rod. From handling both in the stores, I think the Cherrrywood would give you enough tip to not work yourself too much getting the right action from a jerkbait, but not so stiff the hooks will pull out of the fish.

  14. I also second the Loomis MBR783 GLX. I have an older model with Weibe handle and just love it for roll cast to targets.

  15. Tradition says fish deep. However, lots of guys say fish shallow. The great thing about fishing is there are always exceptions to rules and experimentation is key.

  24. This bucktail jig is dressed with an Uncle Josh Spinning Strip which I ordered direct since I couldn't find it elsewhere. Water temp. was in the mid 40ºs and I was dragging it slowly, which is important when the water is that cold. Earlier in the day however, I had taken a 4 1/2 lb. LM on a cinnamon/black flake GYCB Hula Grub. So go figure what is the most important component of presentation in early pre spawn waters. I'd say slow speed with pauses.

  27. Beautiful old fish! Although maybe not so old in Tejas. You have a good enough photo to do a repro mount, all you would need is a length and girth measurement.

  28. How much money do you want to spend? The St Croix Mojo Bass Spinnerbait rod is a good choice. 7ft MH/F Casting rod. I really like it and I am sure the higher end models that St Croix makes are even better.

  29. +1 The KLX would be well worth the additional 20 bucks. Of those on the list, the Tatula.

  30. I use 3 different rods for the different spinnerbaits that I throw. For the 1/4 and some 3/8 a 6.6' MH, the 3/8 with larger trailers and the 1/2 oz a 7' MH and for the 3/4 and 1 oz 7' H. I'd never feel comfortable with a M and a spinnerbait.

  31. Fisher, great question. Do you know that when the pros modify their crankbaits they usually up size the front hook by one size? They don't tell you they do that and we continue to take the cranks out of the package and throw them with no modifications. So regarding your query all I can add is for you to select the brand of the treble hook you like and go one size up on the front hook for your crankbaits.

  32. Congrats. You proved two theories: 1. Let the jig sit after the first cast before you move it; and 2. When your bait feels "different" you set the hook. Great job. I sincerely look forward to your 2015 post when you catch a bigger bass.

  33. I've done a lot of offshore fishing and have caught numerous triple digit fish, I couldn't begin to list them all. I've got a time share in Cabo, fished other Pacific locations as well the Carribean. I have pretty much given up fishing charters with conventional gear. Now a days I get more personal satisfaction fishing spinning gear for the likes of bull dolphin, tarpon, permit, amberjack, on occasion the triple digit mark is surpassed. A few years ago I caught 2 back to back black tip shark 6-7' with a 8000 spheros reel, that beat the crap out of me. Thankful at 69 and 135# I can still do it.

  36. Do they not share the record in some sort of technical way? Too few ounces between them I believe. My original point being that I prefer the romantic skew of the original Perry record and ignore the freakish hand feed transplanted gene pool slugs coming from places out of their natural original range.

  39. There's some monsters in Olathe. I know some guys do well trolling for them, I usually target them with topwater during the summer time and fall with traps, this is the first time I've gotten on them with spoons. If someone had a boat with good electronics I think they could really get on them and catch some big ones. I talked to one guy a month or so ago that had a picture of his wife with a 13.5 pound wiper she caught slow rolling a 1oz spinnerbait at Olathe this past summer and I've heard rumors of a 16lb wiper that was caught on chicken livers this summer as well but haven't seen any proof.

Bought about $500 worth of baits to use up there...tubes, wiggle warts, drop shot, finesse jigs, Lucky Craft cranks in ghost wtml craw, bone colored sammys, and piles of jerkbaits! Finished up in 2nd place and caught most fish on a shad rap and a spook
