  1. I don't know how many of you heard of Tica Reels, but I'll ask anyway. I have a Tica Sculptor SL, last couple times out the thumb bars been sticking in the down position and it wont reel in the line, I got to push the bar up for it to reel again. Any ideas whats wrong? I got to let you know I don't even know how to open the reel to get inside. If someone knows how to get inside, that would be a big help. Thanks Joe
  2. Im no pro angler, I am an educated ol f@rt reel service tech that's all. If you were to go back and re-read the hype for the 7.1:1 burners, you would read that the reels were produced at that speed to get an EMPTY lure or hook back to the boat quicker, so and I quote "The Angler Can Cover More Water" not to rip buzzbaits or cranks. From my experience. Run a buzzbait to fast and it will roll, same with a crankbait. We then found them to be real effective for quick turning the heads of hooked fish that were headed for cover, and, taking up slack line on a dead stick. Donnie Rakes, Sounds like a good setup...... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!! Excellent info, Reel Mechanic, you always have great answers with sound advice. Joe
  3. My Citica 200D level wind sometimes if I'm reeling slow will go all the way to the left and stay there, all I have to do to correct this is speed up my retrieve, but something is wrong here. Shimano's website say Possible cracked pawl cap or missing pawl cap and pawl, replace pawl cap and pawl if needed, and under that it says, Possible damaged idle gear or worm gear. I don't think it has anything to do with the gears because it super smooth. The pawl cap is there. Any idea what's wrong? Thanks Joe
  4. I was just wondering if there was a standard gear ratio for certain types of fishing, or is it just a personal choice? Like 5:0.1 for crankbaits, 7:0.1 for buzzbaits, ? for soft plastics, ? for jerkbaits, etc. etc. etc. just curious. Thanks Joe
  5. Had the boat out a couple months ago and it ran fine, 36 MPH at 5500 RPMs 1975 85HP Johnson on a 1987 18.5' Skeeter Bass boat. Friday the boat would not go over 3600 RPMs and not plane. I picked up a couple of carb kits and a friend was going to rebuild them, he done some adjustments first, and removed a screw from the bottom of carb, ran the motor while spraying carb cleaner and lots of dirt came out, after that the motor would rav like some kind of race boat in neutral. Took if out to the river and no power, took compression test, almost 125 in each cylinder. Any idea what to look at next? Sorry for long post. Thanks Joe
  6. booneangler, if your happy with the line then try it on a jig outfit, I jig fish with 40lb Power Pro green. I would go up to at least 30lb, and instead of tying on a leader just get a Sharpie permanent marker in brown or green and color the last 30 inches of line. Good Luck Joe
  7. Worm T/R With Sinker > Yo Zuri 12 lbs Worm T/R No Sinker > Yo Zuri 12 lbs Swimbait > P-Line CXX 20 lbs Frog > Sufix Braid 65 lbs Crankbait > Silver Thread Clear 12 lbs Spinnerbait > Silver Thread Green 16 lbs Jerkbait > Big Game Green 12 lbs Jig > Fireline Crystal 14 lbs & Power Pro Braid 40lbs. Topwater > Big Game Green 12 lbs Buzzbait > Silver Thread Green 16 lbs Dropshot Rainb YN1000 Spinning Reel Seagurr 10 lbs Wakyhead Daiwa 1000 Spinning Reel P-line Floroclear 6 lbs I'm experimenting this year, last year all I used was 12lb trilene XL and 4lb Cabelas, I just got back into fishing last year, I shouldn't say back in, I never really stop fishing just slowed down a whole lot. My son actually got heavy into Bass fishing and I just climb onboard. I get to spend a lot of quality time with my son and Grandson Joe
  8. chanrocks93, just take your time, I found I still get backlashes( birdnest ) if I try too hard to really get out there, keep your cast nice an easy, do some side arm, and some overhead at 1:00 o'clock not directly overhead but 1:00 or 2:00 o'clock range. Good Luck Joe
  9. If you never tried the tape, don't knock it, it does work, chanrocks93, if your still have problems backlashing try the tape. IT WILL HELP YOU.
  10. OUCH from Lewiston, Maine to Las Vegas. Wow what a culture shock, not to mention from moderate temps to hotter than hell....joeyd50, I really hate that system. It's guys like you that have new to BC reel anglers trying to cast as far as they can before they can even hit a bucket at 10'.... Because most all users of BC equipment (when telling the truth) always get some king of backlash, then you wind up leaving the tape on the spool. I had a friend try it, lure hit the water fish took the lure and no more line to let out because of the tape.. Guess what he looked like a d**n fool trying to get the tape off of the spool so he could fight the fish, need less to say he lost a heck of a fish to that system.. I SAY NO TO THAT TIP!! The whole point of the tape is to stop the massive backlash, I should have said, you put on the tape then you practice the 10, 15, 20 foot buckets and out till you feel comfortable, then take the tape off. This does work. Good Luck Joe
  11. Try this, cast as far as you can, then peel off a couple more yards. Now get some electric tape and tape up the spool, next time you cast you can't go any further then the tape, this will reduce your backlash till you get the hang of it. Good Luck Joe
  12. I just like you to know I have 2 Megaforce reels, my son has one, and another guy I fish with has one, we all love them, I got a 19.5lb striper in on 12 lb line with no problems, that fish fought for 25 minuets. another siteatick must of got a couple lemons. Good Luck Joe
  13. In your first post you say your only 14 years old, and in your second post you said, I need a two piece so it'll fit in my truck. 14 and driving a truck. How young can you drive in Maine? :-?
  14. Pulled the top off and found that there is a wire coming from the tube, from motor, a wire coming from the speed dial switch and a little white wire coming from some kind of relay. All 3 wires go into one connecter that was attached inside the top of motor but melted itself lose. I have no idea why its getting so hot, all connections are tight. Brushes maybe? Thanks Joe
  15. mattm, you should be jumping for joy, this is going to be one of the happiest days of your life buying a boat, and the other happiest day is the day you sell your boat. Just kidding, I have a older Skeeter 18.5' and my son has a 19.5' Nitro, I like both boats, its tough looking for the perfect boat, TAKE YOUR TIME. Good Luck Joe
  16. I have a Motor Guide 41lb Bill Dance Edition, on the motor it says Whisper Guide, Power Plus. It runs fine but on top behind the speed control knob it get very hot, not so hot you can't touch it but really hot. Does this sound normal? Thanks Joe

  19. bassmason, try this, cast as far as you can, then peel off about 6 more feet of line, now get some electric tape and cover the line on the spool with the tape. The line can't go any further then the tape, this will stop your backlashing, as soon as you feel confident casting take the tape off. Good Luck Joe
  20. I jig and frog fish in slop, like bigbassdave said back off on the drag, I thumb the spool when I set the hook, once hooked you can tighten up on the drag. Good Luck Joe
