Are Length/Slot Limits Still Revelant?
Just some quick thoughts on the post. Each and every water body is different. In my opinion many of the limits are set so the source won't get overly depleted. There are not enough funds to sample each and every water body, and look at size distributions, relative weight, and etc.. Many very good points were made on this issue. I am sure I will have my thoughts. I will post later. I like how fisherman are starting to think about topics such as this.

I can't change what I am stuck with. Might as well not let it bother me at this point in life... :-/

Picking Up and Moving
I think your right. I didn't think about this post as validation, but in retrospect I think it is that indeed. I know where your coming from. My idea is that I am young, and not settled with too much holding me back. If I take the risk now, I can still have time to make a change. If I wait until I am say 40 (just an example) it may be a little harder to make the switch. I may very well go down there, and hate southern women, BBQ, and the fishing. If so I can move back, or somewhere else. Thanks everyone who is replying...I like hearing the opinions, and experiences of others. Many of you have much more life experience (age) than me , and I am happy to learn from all of you.

Picking Up and Moving
In my opinion Alabama has some of the best bass fishing opportunities. Granted humidity, and the heat can be tough. I can only name a handful of states who have the number of quality lakes AL does. I mean honestly... Pickwick, Wilson, Wheeler, Guntersville, Lay, Lewis-Smith, Neely-Henry and Logan Martin.

Picking Up and Moving
Sorry to hear about your wife. I am sure that wasn''t/is easy. Where in Alabama did you live? When I was there I got along with all the locals that I talked to. It may have been because they knew I was leaving, and was just there for the tournament. They treated me like I wasn't a "d**n yankee", and I would hope I got that same treatment once again.

Picking Up and Moving
That is an awesome story, as well as very inspiring. I am glad things worked out for you. You definitely took a gamble, and I bet you don't regret it for a second. If I made a move from Texas to Michigan I am sure I would be minding the cold.

How to shoot yourself in the foot.
Mike if I saw you on the water I would help you even if I was in a tournament. ;D On the serious note. Do you carry a sounding device? Do you have a cellular phone? I know many lakes you won't get service, but I like to have mine just in case.
-
Would you help your fellow anler - when fishing a tournament?
Just curious here...But what IF everyone thought that way..? And what IF you needed help..? I would just hope not everyone is as selfish as I am.
-
Would you help your fellow anler - when fishing a tournament?
My answer would depend on a lot. I know it makes me look like a horrible person, but I am being honest. If he was in immediate danger I would help him without a doubt as soon as possible. If he was safe, and there were other people around I would pass him by for the time being.

Picking Up and Moving
Have any of you found somewhere where you believe you want to live, and just decided to up and move? Just having a little cash in your pocket, and no job for you when you get to your destination. I am contemplating making a move to the southeast specifically in the Florence/Muscle Shoals/Decatur Alabama area. I was there for a week, and sort of fell in love with the area and the fishing... Life doesn't get any easier the older you get... I thought it would, but you really need to make life altering decisions at times. I have a degree, and would like to start building on a career in the fisheries field. Without going for a masters experience is THE key. I may be debilitating myself by making a move to work somewhere that will not benefit me in terms of perusing a career. If you have done anything like this how was/is your experience? Any general comments/advice would be great.

Glass Rods
You said what I wanted to hear. I got the American Rodsmiths rod for deep cranking. I really was sick of working hard, and only having it where I thought was the strike zone for 10-15 feet.

Beautiful weather in Iowa
I wouldn't mind catching a few of those fish in that setting. Hell man, I wouldn't mind just casting a line there a few times a week. Very nice man. It sounds like you have yourself a little honey hole. Going to that lake after work sounds like therapy to.

Glass Rods
You guys have me extremely worried. I bought two cranking rods without feeling them, and based my buying decisions off of places like TT, other members, etc. I bought an American Rodsmiths Fritts Glass Crank Rod 7'6" Medium. I based my buying decision solely on the opinion of someone who I have 100% confidence in. He does a lot of deep cranking, and I trust him when it comes to cranks. I also bought a L.C. Cranking Rod 7' Medium Fat Mini Magic glass rod. I bought this rod on a few different aspects. One the price is right. Two TT gave this rod a lot of credit for being a quality rod as well as very fairly priced. The LC rod was one of the favorite rods out of 30 rods in crankbait wars. Here is a review that I read that helped lead to the decision to buy this rod: http://www.tackletour.com/reviewluckycraft701mf.html

THE WIFE
You still added three senseless, and purposeless posts to your count. I would say 75% of your posts have no substance. I would also be willing to bet 90% of what you say is from what you read, and not from personal experience. Get off the internet, and go ride your bike or walk to a fishing hole, and actually do some fishing.

Can you feel the crank bumping cover?

could use some recommendations on waders
I am not quite sure if I would trust someone who wears Crocs with waders, but you make your own decision. ;D

could use some recommendations on waders
They are pricey, but they will take care of you. Read up on the warranty. Also Jackson Hole is about an hour from me... fun town, and lucky guy. Off topic.. does he guide on the snake?

shoes/boots for fishing in heavy rain

could use some recommendations on waders
Boot wise definitely get felt, and if possible studded. Studded boots aren't the greatest to walk on dry rocks or road, but I really don't mind it at all. If you take care of a good pair of waders, and boots they can last fairly long. I am typically in my waders over 100 days a year.

Glass Rods
Has anyone ever switched from graphite to glass, and absolutely hated the rod? If so why?

could use some recommendations on waders
I probably spend more time in waders then the majority of people here. I wear waders very hard with both fishing and work. If you wear them as much as I do it will be hard to get a pair that will last more then 2 seasons. Neoprene waders are great in the cold, but are dreadful in the heat. If you are looking for year round use do not buy them. I suggest buying full length stocking foot waders. In my opinion the booted waders are more likely to wear away at the seams. I really like the waders that are reinforced in the shins and knees, because that is typically where you get a tear from kneeling or walking through brush. If you take my advice, and go with stocking foot you will need to choose boots. There are many choices here as well. What you choose needs to fit your needs. If you are walking on slippery surfaces I would suggest felt with the steel studs. The brand I like is Cabelas. I choose Cabelas mainly because of their customer service. Waders will typically fail within one season of heavy use. If you take them to customer service with a receipt you will get your money back or exchange depending how long since the purchase., It would be tough to get everything I mentioned in $100 range. If you want to designate a price range, conditions, and any other factors I can try to help pick a few out that look decent.

Critique My Gear
]That is solid advice. I have two problems with it though. The first problem is if we only have the same setup the tackle junky inside of us all will not be happy. Second I am not sure which combos I am the happiest with.
