Loomis Mossyback BCR663
I want a shorter rod for beating the banks and dock fishing. I have 6'8" and 7'1" worming/jigging rods, and want something else for tight quarters. I have a medium powered 5'6" rod, but it is more of a mod to mod/fast action. I want a more powerful, faster rod for plastics. The 663 looks like it would fit the bill. None of the shops around here carry this model, so I can't get a feel for it in person.

Loomis Mossyback BCR663
This is the 5'6", MH rod in the Mossyback series. Does anybody have any experience with this rod? The other day I realized that my shortest wormin' rod is 6'8". I've been putting serious thought into purchasing a shorter rod, and this model caught my eye.

Jeans
If I'm wearing denim, chances are I'm in Key overalls. Both the regular blue and the hickory stripe. I've bought a few pairs of Redhead corduroys and work pants in the past. Never again. They always fade prematurely. It's taken me several years and way too much money to realize to stay away from Redhead stuff.

A farewell to one of the greats...
Up until right after the NFC championship game I really thought he was coming back. His body just can't handle the cold like it used to. The two very cold games this past season, @ Chicago and the NFC Championship, he just couldn't get it done. After thinking about these two games, I had a bad feeling he wasn't coming back. I grew-up watching Favre. He took us from perennial cellar-dwellers to the top of the NFL. He will be missed greatly. I have no idea how we'll get used to not seeing #4 under center on Sundays. With his ironman streak and all, the thought of not seeing Favre on game day has never crossed my mind. It has been a given. We've been lucky to not only have a QB that you know wll be there every week, and to never have a QB controvesy, but to have one that played at the caliber he has. This one is going to take some time getting used to. I guess now we'll get a chance to see if Aaron Rodgers can cut it. http://www.packers.com/breaking_news/

What are your New Year's Plans tonight?
I've been wanting to update this for some time, and have kept in on the back burner. While we were out that evening, a girl took two pics of my brother and me. She put them up on her Flickr page. Here's the link. I'm on the right. Man, we had FUN.

Show your desktops
I can't show mine...it has a little vulagrity. It's the picture of Cousin Eddie, in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, emptying out the sceptic line from his camper. He's wearing that short robe, mad bomber hat, smoking a stogie and bustin' suds. The one where he says "Merry Christmas, shi**ers full."

What's Your Favorite Fishing Smell?
My favorite smell is early evenings in the summer, fishing from our dock. Just a bit after the sun sets, a layer of cool air starts to sink from above. When it settles at ground level, and mixes with our sandy soil, it is one of the sweetest scents I've ever had the pleasure to experience. I have lost numerous fish over the years because I've been too busy smelling, and flub the hook-set. It's well worth a few lost fish for such a wonderful memory. Also, beating the banks in the spring during the week the lilacs bloom. And just about any brand of anise or garlic scented soft plastics; they always bring a smile to my face.

Official BR.com Movie Review thread
When are people gonna realize that Dane Cook is not funny. Just because you talk and act like a teenage girl and flail your arms around like an idiot doesn't make what you say funny. I honestly wish someone would shove Dane Cook and Ryan Reynolds into a rocket, and shoot it straight at the sun. Those are two I definitely could do without.

Round baitcaster for small senko's?
I've not casted either of the reels, but both should be able to handle a 4" senko; the salty senko is pretty heavy. If line capacity is not an issue, or if you use braid, give the 51 a shot. The fun factor on small reels is through the roof. If you are looking for more of an all-around reel, go with the 101.

Choosing a Topwater Rod
I prefer two different rods for those techniques. I also like a longer rod for buzzbaits: 6'6''-7'0''; medium powered. If I'm fishing buzzers near cover I use my 7'0'' MH spinnerbait rod. I like a much shorter rod for poppers: 6'0''-6'3"; medium powered as well. This could double as a jerkbait rod. I've had my eye on the 5'10" topwater rod that Loomis makes in the Bronzeback series. I also found an older 5'6" M casting rod in my basement that I'll give a go this summer. If I had to pick one rod to do it all, I agree with the RW and Peasey about a 6'6" M rod. You have the length to set the hook on a longer cast, but it is still short enough to walk-the-dog and work other topwaters.

Absinthe? You guys ever try it?
A friend of mine brought back a few bottles from a business trip to Europe. A few Labor Days ago we got loopy as all heck off the stuff @ his annual party. Enjoyable in moderation. Definitely a different kind of buzz. As I said, it was enjoyable.

THE PENNANTS ARE "ALMOST" IN VIEW AND THE TRASH IS FLYING- 2008
Last year was a sign of things to come. Hopefully the new owner will keep it up. If the $*&*(#)!@)@#&*#@(**$%(#*%#)$()#($)#&*@(#*@(# Marlins can buy two World Series titles, then I don't understand can't the Cubs buy one? Because they're the Cubs. ;D

As long as he makes a few more mistakes, he's a-ok in my book.

Scorpion Metanium XT or Scorpion 1001?
Go for the Scorpion. It will handle the light stuff well. The XT is the JDM counterpart to the Chronarch. They both are great reels. The Scorp is the better of the two at pitching. I'd go with the XT for casting spinnerbaits and buzzbaits, or T-rigs/jigs, or even frogs. JMO.

Had Surgery Last Week.
Glad to hear everything went well. What section of the spine was the procedure performed on? While you recover, you can definitley get your fishing fix on the forum. I'm awaiting spinal cord surgery myself. I originally injured it about a year ago. I ruptured the base of my spine internally, therefore it's leaking spinal cord fluid through a large tear. There is a herniation at L5-S1 as well. As I get closer to my procedure I'll PM you with some questions if that's ok. Spring will be here soon. Then you can make-up for some lost time on the water. Take care. -Shaun

This is cool.
Very cool. Didn't see it coming until the top right started taking form.

THE PENNANTS ARE "ALMOST" IN VIEW AND THE TRASH IS FLYING- 2008
The Brian Roberts to the Cubs rumor is still going strong...looks like it actually might happen. It hasn't lost any steam over the last month. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2008/02/brian-roberts-3.html

Girl Scouts are the devil!
I guess I'm in the minority when I say that I think GS cookies aren't all that good. Now I don't dislike them to the fullest extent, but enough to not buy them. When I've bought them in the past, I'm always let down by the quality. Now the Cougars on the other hand.......

TIP HEAVY-What Does This Mean???
An unbalanced rod. It's like when you're trying to hold your rod tip up, as alot of plastics/jig fishermen do, and the tip wants to drop down towards the water. Like Burley said, the tip feels heavy. A heavier reel will help combat this. Some of the splitgrip and/or removed forgrip rods are guilty of this.

Thermostat What's yours set at?
Another wood burner here. We start in about Nov, and burn until around the end of March/beginning of April. We usually burn between 3-4 full cords a winter. This year it has been so brutally cold, I bet we burn at least 5. We also save a ton on electricity by not having to use the dryer in the winter. We have two clothes lines near our wood burner. Clothes dry in no time.

The last few years I've been doing really well with a Yum Chunk on my spinnerbaits. One of my home lakes has a ton of stunted crappie. I've used the Glimmer Blue Pepper pattern with great success on that lake.
