Rattlinrogue

I'm trying to make some floating minnow baits out of various woods.It's all trial and error.I'm hoping to create something that will catch fish .It's a work in progress.

Here in H'burg it's Wmart or Big Buck(A local sporting goods store).BB has just about every lure you've ever heard of,but they are VERY expensive .We're getting a Bass Pro Shop(opens in '06) in Jackson which is 90 miles north of my city.

I started with soft plastics.Then it was jerkbaits,spinnerbaits,jig and pig,crankbaits.I've become decent with all of them except the crankbait.I don't know why.I've caught the odd bass here and there with a CB,but I never got "confident" using it.If it doesn't work pretty quick,I'm on to some other bait.

I prefer using the lightest line I can get by with(caught the 12 and 3 10's on 10lb.test),but when you break off a giant bass(lost a giant saturday)you tend to scrap that.I'm now using 15 lb. Berklry Big Game.

When the barometric pressure is dropping,it seems to really turn on the feeding activity of the bass at my home lake.Being that it precedes a storm(usually),I really like to fish before and during the rainstorm.

The state record largemouth in Mississippi is18.7( he caught it on a silver-blue back Rouge floater over in Natchez).That just happens to be my # 1 bait.Where I fish the lake record is 14+ lbs.Our game Warden has told me he's shocked up a 16 + lb. bass always in the same vicinity.I plan on breaking that record and maybe even the state record.Pray for me!

I agree.Frogg-Toggs.They are also very affordable.

I've only been on about a week,but I'm on several times a day.I'm glad I found a place where everybody is as crazy about bassin' as I am.The only thing better than this forum is bass fishing itself...barely!

The basics:Texas-rigged worms(redshad,purple,black,etc.),an original floating Rapala(silver-black back,gold-black back),some kind of shad colored crankbait ,and acouple of spinnerbaits(white;chartruese).

I've always had prompt service from B.A.S.S.

I loosen the winch strap slightly leaving the strap hooked to the boat.When I back down the launch area,I wait until I see the boat float a little off the trailer.I jump in the back of the truck ,undo the stap from the boat,and push the boat off of the trailer(with me in it).I thenuse the trolling motor to get to the dock.Tie off the boat,park the truck,and go fishing.

I fished out of a "homemade" bass boat for years.Some of the best memories I have about fishing are in that boat. I could go places that the big boys couldn't get to.Half of the fun is using your imagination and building it.Good luck.You'll have many a good time in it.

Always wanted one for fishing creeks and rivers.Probably gonna get one for Christmas.They look so cool!

I'm using an old late 70's Terry bass boat w/ stick steering.I totally refurbished it.New outboard,TM,carpet,wiring,rod boxes,fiberglass(where it was needed),paint job.It looks different out there with all the fancy bass rigs,but it's beautiful!

I use Yamahalube. I was told by the dealer that the Yamaha outboard runs best on its own special brand.When I ran an Evinrude,I used Penzoil Premium.It worked fine for me.

If they do feel pain,it couldn't be any worse than what I feel in my 3 bulging discs in my back when I set the hook...LoL

Welcome.You're gonna enjoy this forum.I've only been on it for 2 days ,and I'm having a ball.It' great to converse with people that are as crazy about bass as you are.

I'm a firm believer in the bigger bait-bigger fish theory.You won't catch as many fish,but the size of the fish you do catch will more than make up for that discrepency.

My best largemouth was a 12.2 caught on a floating Rattlinrogue(gold-black back w/ orange belly).

If it's a confidence bait ,I'll stay with it off and on all day.A bait that I'm not really sold on yet will get switched a lot quicker.

I do use them on crankbaits,jerkbaits,and 'traps.I've caught alot of fish with them on.I've caught a 12.2,10.5,10.3,and a 10.1 with the clips attached.They're obviously strong enough to take a big fish.

In the deep South,a light afternoon rain during the dog days of summer is just what the doctor ordered!

Sometimes you get lucky and stumble on a great pattern,but to be a good bassman there's got to be some knowledge or skills.Everyone on this forum has some skills ,or we wouldn't be catching the fish that we do.

I catch,weigh,photograph,and release. I did keep the 12.2 to mount.I have no problems with those that keep their catch( I used to ).
