  1. I also like the idea of monitoring gas consumtion and being abe to know how far you can run. Yeah waypoint sharing would be pretty good too. I was wondering does that mean you would only need one gps reciever? bassdocktor
  2. As i just started college I found another resource you might want to try. Go to the college libraries if you can they have a ton of maps. I realy haven't be able to check them out yet but from the looks of it they will have some lake ones too. My school has a gigantic section of many many maps. bassdocktor
  3. It really doesn't have a name because its run from a small store. But the best thing I would do if I were you is see if any stores have tournaments. I would guess you already did this but go to the closest tackle store and see if they can be any help to you. These are just a few things but pm me and we can talk more about it. If you do let me know where you've look already. There are still a few more things to try if you already have done this. bassdocktor
  4. Hey do you know where St. Josephs County is in relation to Allegan county. I'm up there all the time in the summer with my dad and fish in some of the small circuits. Send me a pm and I'll see if I can help you out. bassdocktor
  5. I had a Lowe and now a Triton and its in the same spot. Its infront of the post with the winch. I really should llok but I'm not sure on the attatchment. I think it is one or two bolts that have nuts on them that hold it in place probably a U bolt. Being from the city I also have a cable lock to help deter theft. bassdocktor
  6. I agree sometimes your foot will get a little tired on a long run. I guess that is why they now make a hot foot with cruise control. I don't really know anything about it other than you can get it with I believe electronic cruise. I saw it advertised about 2 months ago in a boat magazine. I'm not sure if its's available yet or coming soon. bassdocktor
  7. Hey that waht I plan on doing at the University of Illinois at Chicago but I've been told by a few people that you may need to wait till the second semester. I guess they want you to get settled. And bixbybasspro send me a pm if you wanna talk about starting a club maybe we can compare and share info. bassdocktor
  8. Yeah actually when we bought the boat the factory reps (they were that a a show) told us that a jackplate really wasn't necessary for that particular boat. It is our first real boat so we listened to them. So no it doesn't have one on it. Yeah I'll have to try that with the steering. thanks, bassdocktor
  9. Hey everyone I was hoping some of you might be able to help me. I have new 2005 Triton 186 with a 150 merc XR6 with a tempest plus. I'd have to check the pitch. Seems the boat will at most hit about 5100rpm and is rated for I believe 5600 rpm. 1st... Should I be running at a higher rpm range? 2nd... It seems that as I approach 57mph the boat seems to want to walk. My first guess was it was trimmed to high but if I trim it to where it walks it still gains speed. I was told to trimm it up until you loose speed but that doesn't happen for me. Most importantly is there anything I can to about the walking. I've heard a jackplate can make a large difference and sometimes a prop can help. Also a few people have told me adding a hydrofoil can help. Weight in the boat is pretty balanced by myself, gear, and dad. any input would be great. Thanks, bassdocktor
  10. Talk about a nice pawn shop. All the ones I ever find usually have high priced junk.
  11. Wow that really would be great. I just graduated from highschool and would have loved that. Would have been alittle tougher in Chicago but I think I could have got some teachers to help. From talking to alot of people I don't think I would have found the other guys. Only a few guys fished at my school and almost all of them would have been to busy. Kinda odd you would think it might be the opposite, I found teachers and not students. Now I plan on concentrating my efforts on starting a college team. O well Good luck with that and I hope it gets passed. bassdocktor
  12. I got my first bass boat this year and find it to be great. Like everyone said it's great for safety allowing you to keep both hands on the wheel. Before my dad and I bought the boat we talked to a lot of different people including some reps from Triton that we'd met a few time and everyone agreed that the Hot Foot was something we needed to have. bassdocktor
  13. I fish with alot of people that will hit the boat launches. In alot of the tournamnets I fish in some big fish are caught only 10-20 ft from the launch. Each one of these guys including myself will move if someone is trying to come in or out of the water.
  14. Unfortunately I think the reason they do it to many of the Michigan lakes is for the pleasure boaters. You can tell its hurt some of the bass populations even though the DNR says it doesn't. My question is for them is how can they post warning saying it is dangerous for us but not the fish. All the signs say don't use the water.
  15. Maybe you should also consider the lb test line your are using especially if the knot was tied correctly. Also especially if you are fishing around any hard cover make sure you check your line for any weak spots. Just two more things to keep in mind. bassdocktor
  16. They also used to sell another unit called a phase charger that worked on a similar idea. It was like a little little battery charger that as soon as the cranking battery was full it would switch the current coming from the alternator over to the trolling battery. Bad thing with this unit was you would hear a clicking noise every time it turned on. Most likely the same idea that you guys discussed with the newer onboard multibank chargers except it was a seperate unit.
  17. I was just wondering how many of you guys out there encounter this problem. I fish alot in Mchigan and it seems like they are always spraying the lakes for weeds. There seems to be no end to this. I was wondering if you guys do encounter this problem what do you do? Sometimes you can't change lakes because of a tournament. I usually try to find remaining healthy weeds or pull off alittle. What works for you? Thanks bassdocktor
  18. I'm often able to do this when I'm fishing around pontoon boats. I'll just look at it and say that's the one. Usually I have a good idea but for some reasons I keep fishing the ones that I say theres no way. Each time I was right there wasn't a fish there. Some times when I fish by laydowns I'm able to do it too. How about the times when you look at a spot that you would read about it's so perfect but there is nothing there?
  19. I'm not sure either but on Sunday I was fishing a local river and went back into one of the marinas and experienced the same thing. The back half of the fish had a bunch of marks like you described on it. Since I know the water quality where I was fishing is poor, I was wondering if there was some parasite or chemical that left the marks.
  20. Although not a club trying going to any small stores because some of them have a lot of little tournaments. Thats what I do when I'm up in Michigan. It's a great way to meet some other guys, plus they can be more helpful in letting you know what's in your area. The friendships that exist with in these small tournaments are similar to a club. Hope this helped. bassdocktor
  21. yes some people here may not like him. That really isn't reason enough to avoid his book. Fine don't buy it but borrow it from the library. Yes it is a very easy read and there isn't much fishing information. I don't think thats why he wrote it. After reading the book you can begin to understand what he does and what he's gone through to achieve what he has. Definitely check it out, it's well worth the reading time.
  22. A 99' F150 extended cab off road 4x4 and a Triton V8 with a tow package. It has Flowmaster exhaust and and Airhog filter. Pulls our 2005 Triton TR186 w/Merc 150 XR6 no problem. Boat does kinda push if we make quick stops when someone cuts us off in the city. We fish many gravel ramps and lakes that have low levels so sometime 4x4 is a must.
  23. Pretty soon I want to get one started at the University of Illinois at Chicago. However, it's my first year there so I'm trying to get settled in right now. I've done a bunch of research and talked to some other clubs so I have some good info. Hopefully it will turn out well.
  24. I use XT all the time on my bait casters. One thing to consider is the type of cover you are in. I usually have 14lb spooled up and haven't had any problems yet. The other thing you could try is using a net if it is possible. Maybe you should try using 10lb if it is possible. I don't know if you were but try to avoid swinging heavy fish into the boat. bassdocktor
  25. It's too bad that there are all of these problems because I know when my 332c is working it is a great unit.
