Hummingbird 798ci & Hummingbird 997c
You do need to be going between 3-6mph for it to work best but I'm sure 2 would work too. I generally just idle through an area. Yes, you do need to go straight to get the best results.

For Those Of You That Wear Contacts
I guess it depends on what your allergies do to your eye. My eyes used to get irritated when I was cutting lawns all the time. But, that was mostly from getting little pieces of stuff in my eyes (yes I had safety glasses on). Try getting some eye drops. The Visine redness relief drops were always good for me. There are some new ones I saw a commercial for I think Visine multisymptom. I've also heard putting your eye drops in the frindge can help provide more relief.

Johns Hopkins University
Another thing to consider is do any of the schools you are looking at offer programs that guarntee you a spot in their or another medical school? Having started with one of these programs for pharmacy and knowing many people in them for medicine I can warn you they can be stressful because of grade and extra requirements. Howver, it's nice to know if you stay in the program that you have a spot in that med program. Just something else to consider.

Interesting Side Imaging find (UPDATE)
Buckeye, the county that did the search just put in their request for the 1197. I've talked to a few other people that have friends or have seen these units being used in search and rescue or body recovery. I guess its starting to become pretty common.

hey hey from illinois..
Welcome and glad to see another guy from Illinois. Where do you usually fish? I used to go to some of the forest preserves out your way.

Interesting Side Imaging find (UPDATE)
Eddie I agree it is alot but the amount I've learned with it is amazing. Honestly, I learned more about reading my electronics in the week I spent with it than in the 7 years or so I've been using electronics. I've also found alot of other stuff aswell. If you are fishing against alot of locals in a tournament it helps level things out alittle too. Again it is alot but it was the first upgrade to the boat in probably 3 years, so money was already put aside. I also can't imagine not having the large screen size ever again.

Interesting Side Imaging find (UPDATE)
I've been hearing that alot of people have used the SI units to find people. I'm sorry to hear about your cousin. On the positive side atleast you were able to find them. Heres's the non-zoomed in picture.

Interesting Side Imaging find (UPDATE)
Well depending how a few things go on my end this week I'm gonna try and get back up there probably on Thursday. If I do I'll be taking one of the guys from the sheriff department with me. Good thing it's close enough to make it up there in 2hrs. As stuff happens I'll be sure to keep you guys posted. I'll put up the other non-zoomed picture I have when I get home too. Check back late tonight or tomorrow for the other picture.

Interesting Side Imaging find (UPDATE)
Well guys just got off the phone with my dad who is up by the lake in MI. They went down for 2 dive because they weren't convinced nothing was there after the first one. All they found were the cement blocks. They still aren't convinced especially I guess because of the arrangement of the block when they got down there. They are recommending that the case not be closed. They said it might only be a large doll or something but they still want to know. Their next step is to have me go out with one of them and basically scan the lake with one of them. They are waiting to get approval to purchase a unit otherwise they would be out there with it. They also want me to show them how to use the unit once they get their own. So that's kinda cool.

Interesting Side Imaging find (UPDATE)
Yeah fourbizz the only good thing if it is a body is maybe a family can get some closure. I'll defintely keep you guys updated. I should know something by tomorrow afternoon.

Interesting Side Imaging find (UPDATE)
Fourbizz you would think they would find some deeper water. It actually would have been close to 10ft since it was off to the side. Not a huge difference but still slightly deeper. Let me tell you criminals in the area I found this "object" in really aren't that smart. If nothign else they want to come out just to make sure that it is nothing. All the neighbors are kinda concerned about letting their little kids in the water if there is a decomposing body. Can't say I blame them.

Interesting Side Imaging find (UPDATE)
It is pretty creepy. The biggest thing they are saying is that there are 3 hard objects that you can see in the picture, 2 where the feet should be and one where the torso is located. There are shadows on the object in question too. So we'll see tomorrow morning.

Interesting Side Imaging find (UPDATE)
Thought I'd share with you guys what I found while trying out the new 997c. Sure looks like a body. Alot of people have checked out the picture and all agree. The sheriff dive team is coming out tomorrow morning so I'll keep you guys updated. Hope the picture comes up cause I haven't posted any before.

Question concerning side imaging
I just got to use mine for the first time on Tuesday. Since then I've probably used it for maybe 12hrs total out of the 36 I spent on the boat. Also, speed actually does seem to affect it. It really seems to do quite well between 3-6mph. Also, check how far you are using it to search. The shorter the distance you are "looking" the more detail you see. See if either of those help.

Upgrading my Electronics
Jack, everyone I've talked to seems to say you really don't need the SI up on the front. The SI works best when traveling 3-6mph I believe. Most people even the HB rep I talked to suggested putting a non SI unit on the bow. Send me a PM if you want me to give you a call later on. I was pretty much in the same "boat" as you are now.

Upgrading my Electronics
Olebiker you're probably right, but for some reason I thought that he said they were older.

Would you buy a Chrysler or GM product
I personally would buy which ever vehicle I like and would work for its purpose. Not to go too far off topic but I have a serious question. How many of you that keep mention no longer having a warranty have had repairs covered by one? I know my Mercury only had non-warranty items go out. The same when my dad had his Toyota. The Toyota was an expensive fix I remember. Just something I keep thinking about when people mention warranties.

Upgrading my Electronics
We just added the 997 to our boat and will be trying it out on Tuesday. After talking with both Lowrance and Hummin Bird reps the only thing they agreed on is that the HB's SI has been proven and has been around for a few years now. The Lowrance rep obviously told me how superior their product is and how he's had his SI hooked up for 3 months now. He claimed it was much better than the HB. He did admit the release date and price as of a month ago were not set. Also as Wayne P mentioned he fully admitted how Lowrance used the general public in the past to test units. Our 332c had all those problems. This came up as we were talkign about repairing/replacing the 332c. The HB rep was stressing the fact that their units are proven and alot of internet support can be found if you have questions. The one thing he mentioned is to probably not buy one with a Navionics bundle unless you fish all over the country. I dont rememberhow old but he said the maps were about 8 years old and to buy the region specific card. That's what I discovered in the last few months. Really if the Lowrance unit would have been out I would have been perfectly happy to look at those aswell. When you have several thousand dollars in electronics you have to be happy right?

skincare question
Those 3 alcohols are all really fatty acids. Cetyl alcohol is used as an emulsifier to thicken everything up. Makes it that creamy texture. Benzyl alcohol can be used to help keep the bacteria out of the products. Cetearyl alcohol pretty much serves the same purpose as the cetyl alcohol. These 2 are basically used in the formulation of these products. Also, unlike rubbing alcohol (isopropyl) these shouldn't dry out the skin.

Swine flu- Question for Raul?
Hey guys I can jump in here alittle bit as a pharmacy student. Viruses are harder to treat. Generally, you wind up treating the symptoms not the actual infection. While yes there are improvements the best steps you can take would be anything preventative. That's why they keeps saying to wash your hands. Sounds simple but it really does work to help you over all. I'm sure Raul can add much more to this as I'm still beginning my journey into the profession.

You opinion on a vehicle...
Just want to add something to what retiredbosn just said. They can tow, but I dont know any specs. I've seen guys over on scream and fly using them to tow their boats. But those are usually some pretty light boats they are towing. I've also seen them to be pretty popular for pulling 2 jetskis which is probably close to 1500lbs. But, that's only what I've observed.
