One thing i have heard and believe in is to learn how your jig feels like without a fish on it. Feel how it relates to the structure, how it falls and and overall how it fishes. Once you learn that, if the jig feels any diffrent set the hook.

they might have only been slapping at the bait and got hooked. Were the ones you caught hooked deep? did they swallow the bait? Were they hooked on the outside or on the side. A change in color or blade size or blade type can make a difference in how well the fish will take the bait resulting in better hook ups. Other than that i think everybody else has covered everything else. Just try and learn from the first fish you catch of the day and try to make adjustments if needed. Im a big supporter in trailer hooks too. Especially when i get short hits. But spinnerbaits become less weedless when using them. Hope this helps

The Beast was showing me a new swimbait he bought on his boat and pretty much just threw it in the water. I thought it was supposed to be a slow sink, but it looked like a fast to me. We lost a dog on Jimzees boat. Poor Brody was wanting to lick a fish and got to close to the edge. One hat on the Kanwha river in WV.
