  1. You will probably get varied answer, but here is what I normally use a 7:1 gear ratio for: bottom bouncing baits such as worms and jigs, frogs, toads, and sometimes when I am burning a lipless crank. You can always slow down a 7:1 gear ratio for almost any technique.
  2. If you didn't want to spend over $200, you can probably find a good used 783 IMX for $160-$180. I have used it for everything you list except rattletraps. The MBR 3 power can really do it all.
  3. I also think that the 2009 S's have a different break "mechanism". Still centrifugal, but they call it the Pitch Centrifugal Breaking System.
  4. 7' Medium Elite or 6'8 M XF Elite. If you don't like the ACS reel seats or want a split grip then I would look at the Legend Tournament in the same lengths/actions. Let me know what you find up there. I may need to take a trip sometime soon. You down Koopa?
  5. If you are going to spend the money on a smartphone, it would be best to get a data plan. I would highly recommend getting the blackberry bold or I guess it is the tour for Verizon. I researched it for a long time, but it did not come our on Sprint before I had to pull the trigger on a new phone. My classmate has one and it is by far the best smartphone out there. He swears by the thing. My wife has the older 8330 phone and she has nothing but good things to say about it. I do not think you could go wrong with a blackberry. The tour would get my vote.
  6. Loomis MBR783IMX, Chronarch 51mg, #12 YoZuri Hybrid
  7. I am 25 years old and a 3rd year (out of 4) dental student at the University of Illinois at Chicago. I plan to practice general dentistry somewhere in N. Illinois.
  8. I do not think I would take time contemplating what rod to get. Instead, I would take time waiting until you found an IMX MBR online. I got a 783 new for $190 and I have seen most used from $130-175. Definitely worth it over any of the rods you picked. I will keep my eye open for ya.
  9. Hmm, my 7' fters already sit right up against the shifter and I have to move them to the side already when I put it in drive. I am assuming you put the 8 fts up on the dash? The stick jackets are a good idea and I guess I never really thought of them for any other reason besides on a boat locker. I may look into a Dobyns for a frog rod in the near future. Sorry about the car dude. Our neighbor had a their toyota matrix stolen about a month ago from right in front of our apt. They love Honda's and Toyota's for some reason.
  10. I am also rather new to reading sonar and would appreciate it. If anybody has time, could you post some screen shots and explain what you see? You can start a new thread if you didn't want to hijack this one. I am sure Trippyjai would appreciate it as much as I will.
  11. If you haven't already, I would run a search for certain reels you may be looking at. You will find a lot on this site as well as others. If I had to pick a first baitcaster for <$200 all over again it would be a Shimano Chronarch 50/51. They are getting harder to find, but some can be found brand new on the net for $180-$200. Some prefer magnetic breaking, but I prefer the centrifugal breaking. It was much easier for me, as a beginner myself, to get used to with the least amount of overrun. This topic has always been up for debate. Some new reels offer dual breaking w/ both systems. Here are some reels that I would recommend trying out: Revo S Shimano Citica Revo STX (I hated the SX, but the new one does have dual breaking) Shimano Curado Shimano Chronarch Mg50 Daiwa Sol If you are using the 683 for more finesse apps then the last two would fit the bill. All will work, but these two were built for finesse. If you are trying to save some money then then last years Revo's are tough to beat at their price. You probably won't be able to decide what breaking system you like until you try them out so I would buy from a place with a return policy until you get comfortable with either. Also, remember that baitcasters come in left and right side retrieve. This is also up for debate so I would recommend getting a good feel for one on a rod before you buy it. I happen to prefer lefties.
  12. I really wanted to get that rod originally, but I still have to carry them in a Honda Civic. If we had a bigger car then it wouldn't matter. I will probably pick up a 734 once I get out of school and get an SUV. I definitely didn't sell the rod bc it was a bad rod. The best balanced rod I have fished so far.
  13. I can't compare the two, but I really liked to power and action of the 704c. If they made it in full cork I wouldn't have sold it.
  14. If you are mostly throwing 1/4-3/8oz. stuff then the 783 will be fine; anything heavier and you can't go wrong with the 4 power. I have the 783 and use it for most of my spinnerbaits and topwater.
  15. Mine should be here same day. Thinking about taking the entire day off.
  16. Gotcha. Put me down for two Burley. 7'ft MH and a 6'8 M.
  17. Paint it a bright color, give it a clever name, and the masses will flock to it. ;D Don't forget to make it a split grip.
  18. You sure you didn't get a legend tourney rod? I don't think they make a 7'3 in the Avid series. If it's a ltb then you made out even better. Nice find.
  19. Really? You are missing out on some of the best deals you can find. I almost exclusively order online for all my needs except groceries.Sales tax is a killer in Chicago. I have actually had neighbors ask if I was receiving "illegal" things. Maybe see if your mom will o.k. the site before you order from them. You can trust * 100%.
  20. You will have to set the hook with octopus hooks. They are my favorite for wacky rigging any size senko. I have never used circle hooks so I cannot comment on them.
  21. My wife just added chinese; especially fried rice.
  22. I am definitely with Koopa on the left over ham on dinner rolls the day after. I would add that frying the ham up with some eggs the day after is a close second. Honorable mention: Lasagna and enchiladas. Pizza must be fresh before I eat it.
