  1. Dink, If you had to pair a rod with the Sol what would it be ($80-120)? I like your pairings, but I want to utilize the sol. This is what I am thinking: Sol with Crankin Stick for light crankbaits, light spinnerbaits, and jerkbaits. mg51 with M Bionic Blade for weightless plastics mg51 with MH Bionic Blade for Texas rigs or Carolina rigs, heavier spinnerbaits and deep divers. 201E7 with some type of MH rod??? for frogs and buzzbaits. This rod would also be for other applications if not throwing frogs/buzzbaits. Anybody else have some input?

  3. I would like your recommendations on how I should pair my rod/reels. here is was I have: Reels: 2 mg51's, Sol, and 201E7 Rods: BPS Bionic Blade 7' MH and 7' M and BPS Crankin Stik 6'6 M Basically I am looking for help pairing the 3 rods I currently have and then suggesting a 4th rod to pair with the reel that was left out. I have a few rods in mind, but I am open to any suggestions you guys bring up. If you wouldn't mind, I would also welcome you to suggest techniques for each setup. I plan to use my stradic/crucial combo for drop shot and throwing anything under 1/4 oz. Anything else is up for debate. Thanks in advance guys. You have been a great help to me as I lam learning more everyday.
  4. Pez, In what water clarity do you throw the blue fleck?
  5. After reorganizing my plastics, I have come across a few colors that I normally do not fish. I tend to stick to the naturals colors such as watermelon, pumpkinseed, etc. Here are a few of the colors that I recently discovered and I am wondering when to throw them. 1. Dark navy blue trick sticks 2. Blue w/glitter culprits (I also have this color in *** tube.) 3. Red culprits 4. Purple/red zoom mag 11 Thanks a lot for the help.
  6. Same as Robby, but I might substitute another shad pattern for the white.
  7. Just came across your thread. As a fellow Illinite, I wish you the best. Keep it up. I used to train people as a part time job in college and if you ever have questions just let me know. I would love to give pointers and answer questions. Your routine is right on. Btw, a buddy and I are headed your way to fish over spring break. This week can't go by quick enough.
  8. I think that would be more economical for me. I will probably be getting the e7 in a little bit and I may experiment with the handle on my mg. Thanks for the suggestion.
  9. I wax teeth ( ask bass or bass how fun it is) and drill on plastic teeth for now, but will be a dentist in 2 years. I love what I do and wouldn't trade it for the world.
  10. Do any of you that fish/fished the mg have a larger handle on it? I have larger than normal hands and after feeling the new curado in the store was wondering if I should swap the handle? The mg handle is fine, don't get me wrong, but I was wondering if it would be worth the change. Thanks
  11. I always have a spinning reel with a floating worm rigged when I throw a frog for this reason. Throw it a couple feet behind the short strike and twitch at and let it sit. Most of the time they will hammer it! I usually throw a similar color worm as the frog, but a change in color may work as well. Good Luck!

I also picked some up today. 1 baby and 2 of the larger ones in shad pattern. Ice is still solid here in Chicago, but I may get some use out of them when we head to S. Illinois over spring break. I will keep you posted on how things go.
  13. I will only throw the buzz early in the morning and I fish it really slow (1/4 or 3/8 oz usually). Once the sun comes up, I won't throw it again, and then throw a chugbug or shallow shad rap. I hope you didn't jinx me for this season.
  14. Just picked some hollow bodied bass magic swimbaits up at BPS. They were out of most swimbait weighted hooks except the larger ones. I was wondering what size and weight I should try and pick up to match the length. I have one pack of 4.5" and another of 3.5. What would you recommend? Thanks for your help.
  15. Any white buzzbait or blue/chrome chugbug have been my best bet for anytime topwater, especially spring.
  16. I am probably going to purchase one tomorrow or in the near future and was wondering what your favorite one is. It seems like most companies make one, but they are usually only carried in 1 or 2 of their models. I am also a lefty so that narrows it down even more for me. I plan to use mine for frogs at first, but plan to expand its functions once I learn more techniques.
  17. Thanks for the advice. I think I have narrowed it down to a few. I would love to have the curado e7 or would even consider the quantum energy, but my wallet is saying to check out the BPS pro qualifier and Daiwa TD pro. I do not know which has the better frame, but they are the only reels in my price range that come lefty in the 7.1:1 gear ratio. I would think most on here would say curado and I think it would benefit me most, as a noob, to stick with a similar braking system for my reels. The new reel would be added to 2 mg's and a winch. Thanks again for all your help and we'll see what I come home with, if any, after this weekend.
  18. Never used a quantum reel before, but I picked up an mg a month ago and I love the reel. I am pretty new to bc's so I can't really compare to any others, but I do know that I will fish this reel for a very long time.
  19. Frank, I just wanted to hear from somebody who currently uses reels with different braking systems. You have pretty much hit everything I wanted to know right on the head. I use lefties which means Daiwa, Shimano, BPS,and Garcia have the greatest selection of reels for me. I am looking to add a 7.1:1 to my arsenal and since I am relatively new to baitcasters, I wanted to do some research on the braking before I spent the money. You have answered a lot of my questions and now I think I just need to handle a couple of the reels at BPS to see what feel I like the most. Hopefully I can pick one out before the ice melts here in Chicago. Thanks again for all your help. Jon
  20. That is what I meant about the similarities in that they are both variable. I find it interesting that you had similar problems with the sx. I thought it was just me. Do you throw any diawas? I was just wondering if you could compare them to the shimano's. Thanks again, Jon
  21. Frank, Thanks for the great information. I had some birds nest problems with my revo sx when I first got it. I have since bought a shimano mg and although I haven't used it on the water, it seems to cast very easily in the yard. I am looking for something with what I understand a variable breaking system. Although they use a different mechanism, it sounds like the Daiwa and Shimano have the same concept, less brake as the spool speeds up? The reason I initially asked the questions is because I am new to baitcasters and I found the centrifugal to work well and was wondering what other brands use a similar braking system. Thanks for your help btw.
  22. I was wondering what is the mechanism behind the daiwa breaking system on their reels. Also, what is the big difference between their "v" and "z" system. From my understanding it is a magnetic break system. How does it compare to the way the garcia's work? And my last question would be, would it better to stick to one breaking system for all your reels? Anybody that uses multiple breaking systems, I would love to hear your input on this. Thanks a lot guys.
