Another from Illinois
I have been learning from this site for over a year, but just recently started posting more. Well, actually buying from the flea market. haha Thanks cbfishalot, coolhandlala, thefishin1, the_natural, and soon uncle leo. Everyone of these guys have given me a great deal! My hometown is Rockford, IL, but I currently attend dental school in Chicago. The only time I get to fish is on the weekends I head back home to visit my parents. I mostly fish the local state park and private quarries and ponds. The best thing I ever did was get my wife of 2 years hooked on fishing. Brought her out to the state park with 3 dozen wax worms and caught bluegill all day. I caught more, but she caught the only crappie. After shoving that in my face for a week, she finally caught her first largie. To this day, she almost always starts out with a texas rigged tequila sunrise zoom worm because of that first bass. I am also still learning. This will be my first full season using a baitcaster and I am trying to learn how to drop shot and carolina rig. Thanks to all those that keep myself and others learning. I hope you guys keep the annual trip together as I would love to join everyone once I get out of school and have the finances. I wish everyone a great year of many fish. Jon

illinois anglers
From Rockford, but going to school in Chicago. I usually fish Olson lake in a small carry-in boat when I am home on some weekends. I have caught some nice fish out of there. Looking at your screen name I will tell you that chartreuse/firetiger rattletraps work very well all year in this little lake. I really don't fish any other public lakes because of limited time home. If I get lucky a friend of ours gets us in to some of the quarries and that can a great time right there. If my wife doesn't come with me, (which means its probably early morning fishing) I wouldn't mind the company sometime. I've learned so much on this board and if you want some nice gear, check out the flea market section. I have gotten some awesome deals! Take care, Jon

P line Floro Clear?
Never used CX Premium, but I used flouroclear most of last year on my spinning reel. I caught a lot of big fish on it, but for some reason I had quite a few break-offs. A friend of mine uses it with great results. I will definitely try something different this year. Just my .02 cents.

Need a crankbait reel, suggestions?
BPV looks to be sold out. I have been eyeing it for awhile, but didn't have the cash to pull the trigger.

Help: St. Croix Mojo Rods
Just bought a Medium 6'8 Crucial drop shot rod from someone on here. After doing a lot of research I feel I made a very good choice. I have not felt the rod in my hands, but I could not pass up the offer. I can't wait to try it out. 40 degrees and counting... up I hope.

Rage Website.
Roadwarrior's link just worked for me.

BPS Crankin Sticks
I have the 6'6 Fast and it actually seems to be more of a moderate-fast. I have never used a true moderate action crankbait rod, but I have used a lot of fast action ones. Fished side by side with a another fast action BPS rod and I can definitely tell a difference.

Cotton cordell crankbaits?
Great success with the super spots here too. Can't beat them when they are 1.50-2.00 at walmart.

Thanks...

YUMS Dancing eel??????
Let's just say that if everyone on BR decided to mail each other the worst lure they'd purchased, somebody would be getting a lime green dancin eel from me. I fish a lot of private ponds and even these bass won't hit it.

Cabelas Prodigy Reels
After reading this thread, you would think someone would buy mine off the flea market.

What does "firetiger" imitate?
It seems like stained/murky water is a fairly common theme. I would also add that overcast days seem to produce more and better fish on this color. Anyone have the same experience?

Shimano Cruxis Vs. Shimano Citica
x2 on the chronarch. Just got one from TW for $168. It was so much easier to cast that I bought another for my wife. I have only been able to throw it around in the yard. I also have a Revo SX, but fro throwing the lighter stuff, nothing is as smooth as the mg51. Can't wait for the thaw here in the North.

What does "firetiger" imitate?
I was also thinking gill. And I second what hercdoc just said about stained and muddy water. The lake I have had the best luck with it is stained.

What does "firetiger" imitate?
I have caught some of my biggest fish throwing a firetiger super spot over the last couple years. I was wondering what bait fish it imitates. Also, when do you have your best luck with this color. For me, it seems late summer and fall, but I didn't know if that was the norm.

Help: St. Croix Mojo Rods
Thanks for the help. I think I am definitely going with a medium action rod. I just need to decide if I want the Mojo or the lifetime warranty and extra cash of the avid. I think I am going to see if anyone has an avid they are willing to sell. Thanks again.

Help: St. Croix Mojo Rods
I plan to buy a mojo and pair it with a 2500 Saros as my primary spinning reel. My question is, should I get the Medium or the Medium/Light? I will use it for drop shotting and throwing light/weightless plastics. According to the website the M/L is for drop shotting and the M for wacky. I feel that I want a little of both. I am leaning towards the ML because I really don't think I will be throwing anything over a 1/2 oz. which it still handles. I just don't want a rod that is too "wippy". Also, is it true that the same action is a little stiffer in the St. Croix's compared to the BPS rods? I currently use a BPS Bionic Blade MF. Thanks for the input guys.

Someone Give Me A Mechanical Engineering Lesson
I am not a physicist but I do not think it would change your gear ratio and therefore neither increase or decrease your retrieve. If you turn the hand 1x, it is still going to turn the spool 5.0x's no matter how long the handle is. With that said, if it takes you longer to turn the handle because it is longer (you have to cover a longer circumference) then it would directly affect the speed of retrieval by slowing it down. Basically, with the same hand speed you are going to retrieve slower, but this has no affect on the gear ratio. I hope this helps. Jon

Strange fishing tactics you have seen people do.
X2 with the plastic hook cover. Did the same thing with a buzzbait. What a frustrating day when you see the fish hit it, but can't set the hook. What is even better is that my wife is the one that figured it out.

St. Croix Premier Crankin rod
For those that have one already, do you have the glass or graphite version?

D&T's Outdoor World
I did and saw one review from November 2008. I just thought I would see if anyone on here had used them before.
