  1. Unless there's something I don't know, you guys have really similar set-ups. Really similar. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1219787901

Right on. I'm wanting to pour jigs, drop shots, and eventually if I can find a mold I like (i.e. spot remover), shaky heads. I've got the basics covered I believe. Just need to find mold options.

I'm undecided really. On one hand, I think the truth is that some people are fat because they are complacent. Nothing exceeds like excess in the U.S. There's some reason that we're the fattest overall country in the world. On the other hand, I do know that some people have a tougher time staying trim also because of their chemistry. I guess it depends on how "obese" is determined. The BMI scale can be flawed sometimes, so what do you do? Some of our outreach systems are pretty skewed to give hand-outs to people who abuse them. (note: Before someone flips out...I get that some people truly benefit from these things.) All in all, welfare is flawed, health-care is pretty bad, etc. Something needs to be done to reform some of these things. Just curious what you all had to say.

I want to start pouring weight and jigs. What mold options are out there? Do-it? Who else?
  5. Got lucky? As I remember, Alabama used to have a football program, too. No doubt the SEC is a premier conference, but over the years other programs have been just as strong (Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas). Sports dominance comes in cycles, enjoy yours while it lasts. 8-) Well said. Being a fan means you did absolutely nothing in the way of contributing to a win or loss. Best of luck.

  7. x2 Part of me wanted to vote, just to see if anyone voted.

I think the rod, whose hands the rod is in, and the type of line used can make a difference in improving what you have experienced. I almost always feel the nibble, take, or tug. If I don't, and it is super rare, I feel the vibration that gets transmitted through my line. This is more subtle than the other scenarios previously listed. When I feel that vibration, I know it has to be a fish because I know I didn't cause it. I use a 6'9 avid dropshot rod, and 6# or 8# berkley 100% fluoro. I guess it must be my hand. They don't have any new ones to replace it with at BPS or *** though. I'll guess I'll just have to make due with these old meathooks.
  9. I have one. I've only been able to use it once since I got it. Casts well and is SUPER smooth. It's a revo though and they've never let me down. There is a site that had it for 160-170ish that I bought mine from, free shipping. I don't know if forum ettiquete allows me to post it here. Send me a PM and I'll hook you up.

Smokin' joe's makes some good stuff also. Jackstack is a contender even though it's johnson county BBQ. The best stuff is in the hood. It's almost impossible to narrow down options in KC.

Another thing: I've noticed that the strikes are different in that sometimes you never really feel a strike. Sometimes, all you'll see is the line slack on the surface. The fish will sometimes hit it from below and you get a push effect rather than a pull. No ticks, or bumps, just surface slack.

If you were asking for burley's opinion specifically, I apologize in advance. I like the "specialized" weights that have a clip on them, similar to this. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_37406____SearchResults They make one that is cylindrical. Two purposes: It leaves just the weight in a snag, as mentioned, and the cylindrical shape slides through rocky bottoms better.
  13. I remember BEGGING my mom for a pair of air jordans for the first day of school. That was when people tightrolled their jeans. I had a rockies hat too. They had just been formed. Dante Bichette was a star on the roster. Ahhh, the days of slap bracelets and "gleeking" on people.

In light of a recent thread, I wanted to put this up for some people who get it. Sadly, I think if I posted it anywhere else, there would be a response from someone ignorant to what is defined by "harrassment" or any other cliche' term that adults (whatever that means) use when they have they're hands slapped for acting like idiots. Don't credit me with the mongrel prose: it has many parents-at least 420,000 of them: Policemen. A Policeman is a composite of what all men are, mingling of a saint and sinner, dust and deity. Gulled statistics wave the fan over the stinkers, underscore instances of dishonesty and brutality because they are "new". What they really mean is that they are exceptional, unusual, not commonplace. Buried under the frost is the fact: Less than one-half of one percent of policemen misfit the uniform. That's a better average than you'd find among clergy! What is a policeman made of? He, of all men, is once the most needed and the most unwanted. He's a strangely nameless creature who is "sir" to his face and "fuzz" to his back He must be such a diplomat that he can settle differences between individuals so that each will think he won. But...If the policeman is neat, he's conceited; if he's careless, he's a bum. If he's pleasant, he's flirting;if not, he's a grouch. He must make an instant decision which would require months for a lawyer to make. But...If he hurries, he's careless; if he's deliberate, he's lazy. He must be first to an accident and infallible with his diagnosis. He must be able to start breathing, stop bleeding, tie splints and, above all, be sure the victim goes home without a limp. Or expect to be sued. The police officer must know every gun, draw on the run, and hit where it doesn't hurt.He must be able to whip two men twice his size and half his age without damaging his uniform and without being "brutal". If you hit him, he's a coward. If he hits you, he's a bully. A policeman must know everything-and not tell. He must know where all the sin is and not partake. A policeman must, from a single strand of hair, be able to describe the crime, the weapon and the criminal- and tell you where the criminal is hiding. But...If he catches the criminal, he's lucky; if he doesn't, he's a dunce. If he gets promoted, he has political pull; if he doesn't, he's a dullard. The policeman must chase a bum lead to a dead-end, stake out ten nights to tag one witness who saw it happen-but refused to remember. The policeman must be a minister, a social worker, a diplomat, a tough guy and a gentleman. And, of course, he'd have to be genius....For he will have to feed a family on a policeman's salary.
  15. Next time you get pulled over, make sure to jump out of the car and yell "I hate cops!" Then stick your hands in your pockets/waistband really fast. That gets people out of tickets sometimes. I'm glad I know a mortgage banker, otherwise I would probably hate mortgage bankers. Fortunately, I can just fall back on this interaction and form an opinion about you because of the way you represent yourself. Not because of what you do.
  16. Thanks for the heads up; what % discount is ridicuous? The pair I bought was about 50%. Some are more, some less.
  17. I'm sure you're probably a real nice guy, and a big hit at parties but: I'm a cop and my friends are cops. I also know cops that aren't my friend. Some are d**ks and some aren't. Just like this forum for example. People like you can say dumb stuff and it's not a reflection of the entiriety of the population. I would look dumb now if I said, "I hate the members of bassresource.com" because I don't respect you. I've done things that I don't like to do, and sometimes I don't always agree with the things that I'm asked to do. The fact remains that our society has chosen to make speed in excess of a posted limit illegal. A municipality has chosen a fine for that infraction, in your case $200. Don't blame them for enforcing the rules. If you can do better, by all means suit up. Agencies are always hiring, I'm sure a policeman has been shot and killed today somewhere. p.s. when your car turns into a fiery hell-ball of an injury accident and you lie in an unnaturally contorted fashion waiting for someone to help, a policeman will most likely be the one who pulls your fat from the flames.
  18. if anyone's a fan and doesn't already know this. These have been discontinued, maybe due to a patent issue. They are selling out pretty fast everywhere.
  19. I'd like to have a custom made prop bait. Is there anybody who would be interested in trying the build? I've never built anything and I think this one may be a bit more advanced. I'll work out payment however. PM me if you're interested. http://www.brianscrankbaits.com/prop%20Shell.jpg
  20. You want to stop, but it becomes a matter of principal.
  21. Went out for about four hours. Mid-day, so I wasn't expecting much. It was just a can't miss day. I took a 5lb off a black jig with a black red rage tail craw pitching docks. Caught some tournament fish off a berkley poured shaky worm and a terminator red checker spinnerbait. Lost a really nice fish on the jig. The kicker was a 6lb catfish taken on a #6 fat free shad off a windblown point. That's the only real workout my revo winch has gotten since it's arrival. That was a lot of fun. Gold raining from the sky, bacon on everything today.
  22. I've got a 565 up front with the transducer mounted on the trolling motor, with a matrix 27 on the console. Shoot-through for that one. For some reason, the Matrix started to just shut off about two months ago. It would stay on for maybe a minute, then shut off. Now, today, the 565 wouldn't pick up any reading of the bottom. It would read the temp and the display was normal, but no graph. Whenever I would bump the trolling motor there would be a "disturbance" on the screen. Almost like a bottom reading but no real rhyme or reason. It would only happen when I hit the motor and only for a second. Also today, when I tried to turn on the Matrix it read "low voltage" and shut-off. What's up? I've got them both wired to the battery that the TM runs from by the way and had a good charge.
  23. No offense to the guys that go the cheaper road but..... I had a cheap pair that I replaced with some oakley fives (3.0 I think). Polarized. The difference is tremendous. I'll most likely go with the better quality here on out. Oakley's all I've tried. Also, if you work for the gov. (state, local, whatever) you can get a ridiculous discount at usstandardissue.com
