Tournaments like that are nothing until you've fished one in the rain with the temperature at a whopping 33 degrees. My hands got so dang cold i couldn't even tie a palomar knot

This year I am going to try Ice fishing to help beat cabin fever. Lakes need about another inch or so for safe ice though.

Hey all, Looking at picking up a Daiwa Tierra Casting Reel with matching tierra 7' MH rod. Anyone have experience with either of these products?

I like Chatterbaits, but actually use them more often for fishing for northern pike. Bass here in Wisconsin only seem to like the Chatterbaits at night. The heavier ones definitely work well for monster pike though.

Invest in a cheap weather radio that picks up National Weather service broadcasts. One of these is invaluable, especially in areas with shotty cell phone reception

I've asked for gear advice on this site before. I have gotten a lot of good responses and take those responses and "advice"(opinions really) to the store and apply them to what I am buying. Most of the time, I won't follow exactly what someone has offered as advice, but purchase something similar within my budget (being a broke college student doesn't help matters when your hobbies include hunting and fishing). Overall, I feel that brand doesn't matter as much as quality.

Hey all, Just starting to get into ice fishing and wondering if anyone here knows a good combo for ice fishing for bass, walleye, and panfish. Currently, looking at Cabela's whuppin' stick combo. Anyone have this experience with this comb?

My fishing club volunteers with a local conservation center teaching kids how to fish. Also, we just hold days where we go out and fish with each other or hold club tournaments. Fundraising is also pretty important for us.

I heard rattle traps are also good cold weather baits, any particular colors of baits they prefer on LOZ?

Does your college have a way to start student clubs? I know at Iowa State where I attend all you need is 5 friends to start a club. So I would go about starting a fishing club and see who is interested in that, then form a team from members of that club and use that organization to get whatever benefits/perks registered organizations at your school get.

In the past I have caught most on plastic worms. This year though I've been learning new techniques (and thus only keep a worm on if fishing is slow and I need a bait I have great confidence in) and have had great success on spinnerbaits and jigs. I really think it all comes down to what you like to throw/what you have confidence in.

I fish mostly for Northern Pickerel up here in wisconsin. Most luck has come on: Extra flashy spoons (traditional red/white daredevils are great) Single Colorado Blade spinner baits (3/4oz to 1 oz) Chatterbaits (the heavier versions) They will hit most bass baits too (I've caught them on Weightless Trick Sticks). Best tip, use a non-shiny metallic leader at the end of your line to prevent bite offs

I was tossing a watermelon green ring tube T-rigged near the bottom on a small pond. Felt something hit the bait and hit it hard, set the hook started reeling and when I saw this thing I had no clue what it was. Had to be at least 30" long and turned out to be bowfish. Same lake about 1 week before hand, fishing with my black/sliver x-rap I caught a spotted gar fish. Before then I didn't even know those existed in Wisconsin
