Topwater bite on cold mornings??
Saturday and Sunday we had hell's weather up here in chicagoland.Night- 30's,day-40's,wind gusts up to 30mph.Did try lipless, shallow cranks, jigs and nothing worked. But I found ledge with 7-8' of water and caught 10 bass 12-18'' in an hour.I've used slooow moving C-rig.As a bait- brush hog. After an hour bites stopped.Maybe this will help. Fluorocarbon line issues...
I had same issue when started using fluoro.I thought my reel broke or something. With heavier lures OK,but with lighter birds nest or loose.Did play with brakes and nothing or I was able to cast 10-15 ft.After one cast 8-10ft of line broke (birds nest). From that time I didn't have problem with fluoro. So maybe cut 5-10 ft of line and try it.For me it worked.BTW Try KVD lure and line conditioner,it works great.Good luck. Jig on straight braid?
Except topwaters and deep cranks all my rigs are with braid.I mostly fish in stained to 3-4' clarity waters.I've used leaders, but didn't caught more fish.Maybe in very clear water I will.Braid sensitivity is incredible. You can feel almost everything on the bottom. Adam

How long should my flourocarbon leader be?
I'm going Yamamoto's way.If I'm retie often lures, going with longer 10-12 ft. If I'm using snap lock, going with 3-7 ft.Uni to Uni works for me very well. It's going very smooth through guides. You can put a drop of glue on it.Never had problem with this knot, but remember you should wetting it.You can't go wrong with 10-12#. setups for Carolina rigs
I'm using 7'3'' LTB Carolina rig StCroix,it's MH/fast,but I think is more like H.I love it for C rig. Find >7' Heavy/fast and grab it 40-60lb braid + 14lb mono or fluoro. Adam

next loomis to get?
So,you already got shr 822s. In my opinion you should add MBR844/BCR855 and CBR845.Just my 2 cents.Adam

is a med. light rod right for me?
For your needs Medium/fast or extra fast action better option, but if you will fishing around cover the best is MH/fast or extra fast. Most MH rods are rated 1/4-3/4 oz,and 1/8 weight+worm is more than 1/4oz. With ML you can't set the hook effectively.Just my 2cents. Adam
