  1. gamagatsu makes some but the best are either evolutions shakey2 or i like the picasso shakey heads
  2. thats easy SO. CAL OR CENTRAL TEXAS but there youve got lots of storms so id have to say SO. CAL
  3. being that that front will have just passed and that temps are still in pre-spawn you'll have a bit of everything some spawning some spawned and some if any post spawn. my game plan would be to first hit transitional rocky points in about 10-20 ft of water and then try some shallow spawning areas since its early you might find that the males might be making the beds so you have a good chance of catching good numbers id say if all your catching is numbers of males back off to the closest area of some deeper water and throw some slow cran kbaits or carolina rigs. and if all else fails hey you spent a day on the water and remember always learn something if not then you have failed
  4. GETTING TO THE SPOT FIRST MEARLY FALLS ON YOUR BOAT LAUNCH DRAW NUMBER NOT CAUSE SOMEONE SAYS ITS THERE'S YOU GET THERE FIRST YOU FISH IT.
  5. thats exactly my point what makes that pro so good or anyone for that matter if your planting brush to know exactly where the fish will be taking into consideration water temp and transitional period's then you have no true skill in fishing except for dropping brush graphing it and fishing it i mean come on what happened to laying out the map watching the weather knowing the season and understanding what the bass might be doing taking in to consideration of thermoclines, lateral, lines, forage habits etc etc. at any given time. thats how you know your a skilled basser not how well you can lay brush. THIS IS JUST CRAZY
  6. if your planting brush piles and winning tourneys constantly on those piles your cheating and you need some integrity part of fishing is the hunt im sorry but i will never plant brush piles so i know where to go and darn near gaurentee my self a win or definate placing.................. ITS CHEATING
  7. if i was mapping a lake and came across a pile or piles then of course id mark them. i had no knowledge that someone planted them. yes everyone has opinions all im saying is if you learn to fish study what fish do and when and why they do it you dont need to plant piles.
  8. yup you have to practice it can be done with a baitcaster also but you gotta have awesome thumb control or tighten tension and brakes and whip it realy hard you also want a nice soft rod with a good back bone
  9. lake fork 4' ring fry in watermelon/black flake awesome finesse or drop shot bait
  10. heres something to try go ask your tourney director if you can hitch a cargo to the back of your boat and drop piles at pre-fish id like to hear his reaction
  11. of course fish wont bite all the time do you eat all the time? my point is if your a tournament fisher and your planting brush piles your dead wrong. if you have to go plant brush so you know where the fish will be your one step ahead run the lake mark spots and run and gun to find your fish its all part of the sport
  12. if you had to pick 4 or 5 crank bait colors what would they be: Id have to say: sexy shad red craw fire-tiger rootbeer
  13. thats a bunch of crap your fishing tournemants you should not be dropping brush piles. never seen kevin van dam with a pile of christmas tree on the back of his boat. just goes to show the lack of skills for fisherman these days im not the best but i study practice and study some more leave the lake alone and learn to catch fish. wait i know my next tourney ill just set up a coraling net for sure ill win right
  14. definatly the rage craw still wanna give the lobster a try.
  15. i use an infared temp gun can find them at most auto stores like auto zone, napa
  16. ill say its about 4.5-5lbs, good catch and remember let that catch tell you something every time i catch one i'm putting the puzzle together
  17. Caught her on a black/ blue flake trick worm on a 1/8oz picasso shakey head on 10lb trilene sensation and of course JJ's Magic:
  18. its is when you throw a soft plastic out to your target cover and let it sit and dont move it i have dead sticked baits for a minute or two it just takes patience but i can pay dividens especially for big bass
  19. Okay so we got there mid day fri and it snowed all night lighty. woke up got to the lake had the meeting had the boat draw teamed up with our boaters and at sunlight we were off. DONBEATYA'S REPORT- started throwing spinner baits and crank baits and also pitched brush hogs and jigs to all the submerged trees and nothing. eventually went to swim/hopping a 1/2 white strike king pro-model jig/trailer(w/jj's magic) cought my first bass at around 10:00 on a rocky point from then on i focused on points in about 10ft of water and later on caught 2 more on back to back cast. thats all i managed to snag all day and ended up in 8th out off 14 anglers w/3 fish weighing 5.76 i believe. hers some pics and BRGbassmaster will post his report later when he wakes up:
  20. OKAY GUYS REPORT POSTED:
  21. um sorry guys id have to say CALIFORNIA may not have smallmouth except for the far north but you just cant beat all the medium sized inpoundments that regularly pull out 15lb plus bass. 15lb bass caught on a swimbait in 40ft of water unbelievable. i would say 2 of the best lakes in the world are amistad and falcon in texas
  22. Im really good at casting i can put any bait in any little hole, Ive just been good ever since i got my first baitcaster. I owe it all in part to my love for shimano curados man they are the best and you cant beat the price or the ease of maintanance
  23. ya im in texas also el paso and the tourney is in new mexico at santa rosa lake the weather this week has been up and down between windy sunny just kinda been back and forth
  24. okay so got a tourney sat and weather dont look to good. now how should i approach the fish????? supposed to be mix of snow/rain but winds will be low in the 5-10mph ive never fished in weather like this any tips
  25. okay so weather was warming up and past two days have been cooler, windy and cloudy, around low 60's. today is forecasted to be 62 with clouds fading as day goes on slight chance of sprinkle's late this afternoon. also i know today is the first day after the full moon should that really wake them up and get the males on their beds. also im fishing a local 50 acre park pond max depth 8ft mud bottom dingy water, lots of stick up's (tules) some sunken trees for cover.
