Into the drink
It’s not if you flip a canoe/kayak but when. I need to improve my cold weather clothing too as I fish alone. Still overwhelmed by the options.

Source for rod tips for repair?
They did not offer to send me a tip. Instead they offered a replacement rod for 50% off. I think I really just want to find a tip but it’s good to know I could replace the rod if had a worse break.

Source for rod tips for repair?
I broke a rod tip on a fast action Shimano Clarus spinning rod. The replacement rod tips in the repair kit from my local store are too big. The smallest was 6/64 but that was too big. Know of a place I can order specific size smaller tips? I measured the rod tip and it is 0.079”

Ned rig jig head with 3/0 or 4/0 hook?
I'm surprised that folks are questioning my wanting a 3/0 hook. I predominately run a 1/16 or 1/8 oz ball jig head with a 3/0 hook so what's the harm in using a similar size hook for a ned jig? That hook size doesn't seem too big for the smallies I catch with my ball jig/curly tail grubs

Ned rig jig head with 3/0 or 4/0 hook?
That's just what I'm used to throwing. My go-to jig head is a 1/16 ball with a 3/0 hook which works well for me. I don't feel like there is a reason to go with a smaller hook just because I'm using a standup style jig head.

Ned rig jig head with 3/0 or 4/0 hook?
All the ned jig heads at my local tackle store have surprisingly small hooks. Does anybody sell one with a decent size hook?

Any kayakers use the Decked cargo system in their truck bed?
I'm on the edge of pulling the trigger and buying this Decked solution for my new 2019 Silverado Trail Boss. It comes with the sliding drawers and the elevated bed surface that can support up to 2000 lbs. I don't see any real barriers in terms of loading/unloading my kayak other than lifting one end up about a foot higher before sliding it in. My truck will have accessible tied downs exposed (unlike the photo below) so no issues getting a strap across my yak to hold it down. Lots of positive reviews across outdoor/truck forums yet don't recall any from active fishermen.

Abrasion resistant tape to protect truck tailgate from wear?
Is there some kind of automotive / outdoor tape I can apply to this edge of my tailgate to prevent wear when I load/unload my kayak? The tailgate edge has a plastic cap over it but the bottom of the kayak is wearing it down very easy. Must be a very soft tailgate cap.

Tips to catch larger fish in private pond?
This pond has typically provided me a great late morning bite, so I had become lazy in getting up and out there early. So the next time I went I was on the water by 6:30 AM. And it hit a topwater frog.

How to fix uneven line lay on Shimano spinning reel
Thanks. Sounds like normal fishing then should also help it lay out even after a few long casts, assuming I can get a long enough cast to run the line down?

Tips to catch larger fish in private pond?
I don't think the pond is over populated. The bigger ones I have caught are all healthy, nice gut. This pond seems managed or was at one time as it has zero crappie. Just lots of bass and bluegill. There seems to be plenty of bluegill, salamanders, frogs, etc as forage. Just thinking I need to fish it differently to avoid the dinks and find the bigger ones.

How to fix uneven line lay on Shimano spinning reel
This Shimano Sedona 4000 has been a backup reel that never really got put into service for 10+ years. I’m fixing that this season and just spooled it up with fresh 10lb. mono for a little inshore / brackish water fishing for schoolie striper, catfish and maybe a puppy drum or two. But as you can see the line went on goofy forming a top and bottom hump. I assume I need to fiddle with the spool washers but I don’t really know. Any advice?

Tips to catch larger fish in private pond?
I have access to a 2 acre private pond that gets low pressure. I catch a lot of dinks when I throw plastics towards the bank, but have occasionally caught very quality fish over 20". I'm getting tired of burning through bags of plastics catching dinks and trying to focus more on fishing off the bank. I can tell from pictures taken this year that most of my larger fish are hitting more active baits - spinnerbaits, cranks, topwater - usually further away from the bank. Sadly the lake lacks structure to target so what I usually do is work my way around the entire perimeter of the lake in my kayak and both finesse fish and power fish. I'll toss a plastic towards pockets/structure/beaver huts to see what hits, then usually power fish back over top of that immediate area with a crank or something more active. Then move on to the next area. I tell myself to keep with powerfishing, hit more of that water column and don't get caught up in working the bank if all I'm getting are dinks for my efforts. Maybe throw some jigs and work them deeper. It's hard mentally since the lack of underwater structure makes me think the bank itself (except for a couple beaverhuts) is the main structure. What would you do differently?

Garmin Striker Plus 4 confusion over GPS features
I’ve had a number of fishfinders with GPS over the years in different boats. I recently purchased the Garmin Striker Plus 4 as a basic fishfinder/GPS to go in my kayak. It says it has built in GPS but I don’t see a screen to display any location or mapping data except for that contour drawing feature. And now that I look at it more closely I don’t see that it says anything about having maps for any waterways, whether it is larger waterways or lakes and rivers in my area. End it doesn’t appear to except any type of mapping chips. So it says it has GPS but I don't see any traditional helpful GPS features. What’s the GPS do in this thing?!?!

Tatula XT spinning rod bought as combo. Good rod?
Just bought a Daiwa Fuego 2500LT reel and Tatula XT 7’ Medium Fast rod as a combo on eBay. It was only a few bucks more than the reel alone that I was shopping for. Usually the rod on combos are crap. I see talk here about Tatula rods but not the XT line.

Mounting hardware for Garmin Striker install into kayak
I ordered a bunch of stuff to do this and get it all mounted and it's all ready to go. Guess I'll take it back to where I bought it and start over.

Flexible soft side cooler for storing fish?
I haven't kept fish in a few years. When I did I used a traditional hard-sided cooler. Now that I am kayaking I don't want a bulky cooler. Aren't there some flexible coolers now that can be folded or scrunched up to fit into available space better? Are these things a major pain to clean fish slime out of?

Mounting hardware for Garmin Striker install into kayak
Well ****. I researched this and this model seems very popular even with kayak folks. Was this possibly just your install or have you seen other kayak people reporting the same results?
