What's In My Lake!??
Keep trying! I fished a tiny pond behind my moms house for a couple of years before catching a 5+lber. I also fished a small lake in a Florida park for a few years before hooking onto an 8lber. I think the larger fish are just more cautious.

Canal fishing!
Went out to a major canal here in South Florida Saturday morning for a couple hours. Would have stayed longer but the bass bite died down as the day progressed. Started off throwing a junebug senko but didnt get any takers. Switched over to a sexy shad color spinnerbait and caught a couple of bass with the biggest being slightly over 2lbs and a couple of huge bowfins. Gotta replace the spinner after the last bowfin! Thats one nasty fish Here's a shot of the spinnerbait doing its job ;D Also saw alot of gators and a small python in the water. Pretty cool!

Small Pond - Pure Florida strain -Lots of small ones, a few BIG ones - what to use?
I would say to use larger baits. Maybe some 10-12 inch worms and some medium to large swimbaits. I suppose you wont get as many hits but when you do it should be a nice one. I also tend to catch nicer fish on jigs with a trailer attached by dredging the bottom. That being said, my biggest fish to date, an 8lber from a very small pond was caught on a 5 inch senko! Go figure ;D

Thanks SimonSays! I'm sort of leaning towards the XPS from Bass Pro mostly for the price and the reviews seem really good. They have it on sale right now for $69.

Quantum Cabo pt spinning reels.....any input??
I fish saltwater with a Cabo 40 and it is an awesome reel! On the other hand I also own a Boca 40 and it seems just as good and it sells for less $$. SirSnookAlot is right about the Van Stall but your also looking at $650+. I'd love to own one though ;D

Travel rod recommendation
Hey everyone! I'm heading to Utah for a couple of days in June and can only bring one rod/reel combo. I'm looking to buy a spinning travel rod to go with a Quantum Cabo 40 reel that I already have. I would like something that I can use in freshwater and inshore saltwater. Any suggestions? Oh yeah, I'd like to keep in under $120

Utah fishing?
Thanks Iceintheveins! I probably should have mentioned that I am shore bound. I'll do some research on the locations you recommended. I live in So.Florida so I mostly fish for Largemouth Bass. Any ideas of what lures I should bring? I figure that finess fishing would be the way to go with smallies. Last question. Do these lakes also have Largemouth bass? Thanks for the info

Utah fishing?
Hey all, I'll be in Utah from June 5th to June 10th and was wondering what type of fishing opportunities I might find. I'll be in the city of North Logan. Would love to catch a smallie if possible but just about anything would do! Any suggestions as to where to go and what type of gear I should bring would be much appreciated

Braid for baitcaster question?
Hey everyone, I have a couple quick questions regarding the use of braid on a baitcaster. I just got my first baitcaster and had it loaded with 12lb mono. Took it out his morning and managed to use it and catch fish without too many problems but I do prefer to fish with braid. My question is, will changing it to braid cause more birds nests? And, if I do change, do I need to back it with mono like you do with spinning reels? Oh yeah, I was thinking maybe 20-25lb braid. I appreciate the input!
